In a big endorsement of its emerging status as a technology hub, India’s IT capital Bengaluru has been ranked 12th in a list of leading tech-25 cities around the world in the latest “Global Tech Talent Powerhouse” ranking by the real estate consulting firm CBRE.
This is complemented by the city surpassing its first million of tech workers, reaffirming its status as Asia-Pacific’s and the world’s most sought-after location for tech talent.
The report assessed 115 cities around the world served by those 14 companies on their access to and quality of tech talent, as well as the cost to hire them, and ranked them as “Powerhouse,” “Established” and “Emerging” talent hubs.
The inclusion of Bengaluru in the “Powerhouse” category, which has a list that also includes the world’s global tech destinations including Beijing, Boston, London, New York Metro, Paris, San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, Shanghai, Singapore, Tokyo and Toronto, is a great achievement for the Indian tech capital.
Bengaluru was also arecognised as the biggest tech talent market in the Asia Pacific region and with Beijing and Shanghai as well.
This huge labour force has been instrumental in helping to shape the city as a life source in the global technology and innovation ecosystem. Anshuman Magazine, Chairman & CEO – India, South-East Asia, Middle East & Africa, CBRE said, “With Bengaluru emerging as a global tech powerhouse, the city’s rise to be ranked among the top tech cities in the world reflects India’s strong capabilities of impacting the tech sector at a global level in the age of digital and artificial intelligence.”
He also added that the positive growth in other cities of India such as Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Jaipur has led to a more diversified and robust national tech ecosystem.
The report also reinforces Bengaluru’s AI leadership by stating that the city has the largest number of AI professionals in India and is among the ranks of known US tech centres such as San Francisco and New York.
Demographically, Bengaluru is fourth among the 12 tech capitals in working age population, the dominant species in its population base (75.5% of its people are in this group).
The city also was projected to add 2.4% to its working age population from 2019 to 2024, signifying a sound and expanding labor pool.
Bengaluru’s dynamic ecosystem with 28 unicorns is favoured with business friendly policies and robust institutional support.
With the help of top educational institutes and Global Capability Centres (GCCs), India fosters a talented talent pool for high-end jobs in AI, data science, and engineering. This has led to a 12% increase in tech jobs in Bangalore from 2018 to 2023.
Bengaluru, in 2024 witnessed an investment of $3.3 billion in 140 VC deals, including 34 in AI, indicating investor faith in the city’s tech quotient.
This mix of talent abundance, cost-advantage and long-term growth potential has continued to draw overseas investors and tech majors.
The rise of Bengaluru as a global tech centre is proof of the city’s skilled workforce, dynamic startup ecosystem and leading position in emerging technologies.
Backed by continued support from academia, global companies and friendly policies, the city is ready to push the next wave of technological revolution across the globe.
