Google is repositioning its experimental CC product as an AI agent for families, moving the service beyond the personal productivity briefings it originally provided. The new version can coordinate email, calendars, chats and tasks for households, with Google describing uses such as planning meals, tracking school activities, preparing shopping lists and completing selected forms. From daily briefings to family coordination
CC began as a productivity-oriented agent that connected to Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive and the web to produce a daily briefing. Google later brought similar functionality into the Gemini app as Daily Brief. The company said user requests showed a stronger interest in using the system for household coordination, particularly around children’s schedules, bills, sports practices and other recurring tasks.
The new version gives CC its own Google account. That is an important architectural change because it allows the agent to participate in a family workflow while maintaining its own permissions. Each family member decides what information can be shared, including emails about school events, travel, clubs, appointments and other activities. Users can forward information to CC or configure automatic sharing from selected senders.
Google says the system can support up to six family members. Once information is available, CC can add important dates to a shared calendar or create tasks. A school notice about a teacher workday, for example, can become a calendar entry. An appointment confirmation can be turned into a reminder. The objective is to reduce the amount of manual coordination required when information arrives through different channels.
The agent can also handle selected tasks rather than only summarizing information. Google says CC can fill out certain permission slips or registration PDFs, prepare school-supply shopping lists, plan weekly meals, estimate driving time between activities and create shared Google Docs or Sheets. It can ask for missing information and update its group memory so future interactions can use the context already established by the family.

Permissions become part of the product
That behavior is different from a conventional calendar assistant. A calendar tool waits for a user to create an event, while an agent can identify information in an incoming message and propose or create the corresponding task. The usefulness comes from connecting multiple pieces of information. The same design also introduces more opportunities for mistakes, because an incorrect interpretation could create an unwanted appointment, omit an important task or share information with the wrong people.
Google says CC runs on an isolated cloud computer powered by Gemini and its agentic use, Antigravity. The isolated environment aims to give the agent a place to carry out tasks without directly operating inside a user’s primary device. Even so, the system has access to information that family members choose to provide, which makes permission management central to the product.
The initial availability is limited. Google says the experiment is currently available to U.S. users with personal Gmail accounts who are 18 or older. Existing CC users will be invited to upgrade, while new users can join a waitlist. The age restriction means teenagers cannot directly use the service through their own accounts, even though many household tasks involve school schedules and activities that affect them.
The product is also part of a broader shift toward AI agents that maintain ongoing context. Instead of opening an assistant for every individual question, users can provide an agent with a defined set of information and allow it to monitor tasks over time. That approach can reduce repetitive work, but it requires clear controls because the assistant becomes part of the household’s information flow rather than a tool used only for isolated questions.
Where the experiment stands
Google’s family focus also puts privacy and permission design under the spotlight. Family members may have different expectations about what should be shared. One person might want school emails automatically forwarded, while another might not want personal appointments included in a shared system. CC remains an experiment, and Google has not positioned it as a replacement for every family management tool.
