Introducing the much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2:15, which will be available on June 5, 2025 The Switch 2:15 is all set to change the way gaming on a hybrid console is experienced, DUE to its support for the USB.
Although the base Nintendo Switch was able to attach a USB mouse and keyboard to, the Nintendo Switch 2 is set to take that to the next level by offering better use, flexibility and precision for players.
A recent game play video of Koei Tecmo’s “Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening Complete Edition” running on the Switch 2 shows a seamless integration with the console’s revolutionary Joy-Con 2 controllers (they are apparently also usable as a mouse), and standard USB mice.
This is the type of confirmation that emphasizes Nintendo is going to multiple control options because they want to cater to different types of playstyles and games.
The advantages of elasticity of USB input are innumerable. For a strategy game such as “Nobunaga’s Ambition,” or maybe titles like “Civilization VII” that we may or may not play in a post-apocalyptic site, the pinpoint accuracy of cursor control when traversing detail-rich maps and menus is a huge boon.
This will serve as a natural home for indie RTS and sim games, which often requires more detailed cursors.
What’s not explicitly featured in the recent video, but I would wager is fairly likely considering the original Switch can do it and they seem very focused on the concept of flexible input methods, would be the addition of support for USB keyboards.
It would also pave the way for better communication in online games, as well as some added support for those text-heavy adventure or puzzle games.
The Switch 2 adds top and bottom USB Type-C ports which ease connectivity of peripherals when you charge the laptop.
This twin-port setup means you can charge while using an accessory – great news for gamers who tend to play for hours on end.
Additionally, The native mouse functionality of Joy-Con 2 controllers and option to use standard USB mice should give them the incentive to port PC-minded games that doesn’t anchor themselves to gamepad-centric play.
This would drastically expand the game library for the Switch 2, bringing in a broader audience and offering a more varied gaming experience on a handheld device.
Ultimately, the improved USB input support on the Nintendo Switch 2 means both mouse and presumably keyboard support take the gaming console one step closer to blurring the lines between console and PC gaming.
This along with the console’s enhanced processing power and new 2nd gen Joy-Con controllers, to deliver true value add to all game genres at home and on-the-go, in the same small-sized dock.
