Midjourney, known for its cutting edge AI-generated images, has officially released its highly anticipated AI Video Model V1. This major milestone, announced on June 18th 2025, means that the company is now set to take its place in the emerging generative AI video market, transforming how creators can make their still images move.
Though not as featured as some of its competitors for doing text->video generation, Midjourney V1 is used mostly as an image->video tool. They users can now animate both images generated from within the Midjourney platform and their own static image uploads.
The ease of use is simple: once an image is created or uploaded, selecting a new “Animate” feature will inject them with life as a five second video. Each animation will create four, unique 5-second clips that can be expanded to 9 seconds, per clip, up to 21 seconds each!
Availability and Access
Midjourney V1 is now accessible on through the Midjourney site using Discord and everything works on the same UI. To use V1 you must have an active Midjourney subscription. Basic plan is the cheapest entry point, costing $10 per month. Pro and Mega subscribers, who pay $60 per month and $120 per month, respectively, do enjoy unlimited video generation in a “Relax” mode — albeit with slower processing.
The tool is technically available in all tiers, but video generation is to be warned! It requires a great deal of GPU time – the eight times longer than a single image generation kind of a lot. This also means you’re fast GPU minutes is going to be running down fast very quickly for users at the lower tier of plans. Midjourney has said that the pricing of video production will be reviewed next month and may vary depending on user interest.
Just a Few Drops for Proper Use
Midjourney V1 gives you some creative controls to get your video outputs just right:
Auto vs Manually Animate: Users can choose between auto mode where the AI transitions the image, or manual mode where more detailed text prompts describe particular movement and scene progression requirements.
Intensity of motions: This one has ”low motion” and “high motion” modes to choose. Low motion is great for an understated ambient scene with little camera movement and high motion is tailored for a dynamic scene with a lot of camera and subject movement. You really just have to experiment to get the effect you want.
Prompt Specificity: When generating manual animations, explicit and verbose prompts are needed. Emphasize action verbs and temporal relationships for AI to produce the desired movement.
Post Process: V1 provides nice clean looking clips, it may be more polished in video editor. You might also want to look at stabilization if you have slight jitters, color grading for a certain look, or frame interpolation to smooth out preview.
Midjourney V1, while a stepping-stone, represents Midjourney’s grand ambitions for “real-time open-world simulations” and vows to democratize AI video creation for fans and artists.
