RTX business unit Pratt & Whitney announced today a major expansion of its global Geared Turbofan (GTF) engine maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) network with ITP Aero.
This strategic collaboration selects ITP Aero’s Madrid facility as the 21st shop in the GTF MRO network and the eighth in Europe.
The new facility will offer full MRO services and test capabilities for Pratt & Whitney’s PW1500G which powers the Airbus A220 family and the PW1900G engines that serve in the Embraer E-Jets E2 family.
The move will enable Pratt & Whitney to expand ITP Aero’s role in support of the GTF program to include manufacturing of additional parts of the engine and will leverage ITP Aero’s expertise and capabilities for the next-generation GTF platform. This new scope of work will add to the work ITP Aero was already performing on the GTF.
Specifically, over the past decade of the GTF program, ITP Aero has been the risk revenue-sharing partner for some of the most important components in the GTF engine, including manufacturing the low-pressure turbine and as well for the mid-turbine frames and high-pressure compressor integrally bladed rotors.
Keren Rambow, Vice President, GTF Aftermarket and Transformation at Pratt & Whitney, explained the significance of the partnership: “For ITP to be joining the network is a natural progression – they bring their MRO expertise to the table to help get engines back to our customers as quickly as possible.”
Eva Azoulay, CEO of ITP Aero, joined these sentiments, reflecting a strong commitment from ITP Aero to utilising product knowledge, technical know-how and operational capabilities towards the availability and performance of fleets worldwide.
The growing MRO network for GTF engine is essential for the increasing demand for engine maintenance work out as a result of the rapid growing GTF fleet in service around the world. Operating with 21 shops across four continents, as well as additional quick-turn, capability sites, Pratt & Whitney’s Engine Wise services are designed to provide long-term value, allowing customers to rely on a predictable and competitive MRO cost per flight hour through proactive and data-driven support.
This collaboration further underscores Pratt & Whitney’s commitment to increasing its global service network and developing regional maintenance capacity, in particular in Europe.
