In a momentous expression of its staunch commitment to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cutting-edge data software, Salesforce today declared that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Informatica, a pioneer of enterprise AI-powered cloud data management, in an all-cash transaction valued at nearly $8 billion.
The addition of the leading provider of trusted Al solutions for companies in all industries will enhance Salesforce’s ability to deliver trusted customer success solutions in the ever changing AI market.
It coincides especially well with Salesforce’s roadmap for its next-generation AI agent platform, “Agentforce.”
Through the inclusion of Informatica’s enterprise-scale data integration, cataloging, governance, quality, and master data management (MDM), Salesforce hopes to deliver the most comprehensive “agent-ready” data platform in the industry.
This single architecture wields the power to enable AI agents to act with greater intelligence, context and confidence, driving smarter, safer and more scalable outcomes for companies.
Marc Benioff, Chair and CEO, Salesforce, said: “When you combine Salesforce Einstein, the top AI platform, with CLAIRE, you get the leading AI and data platform.
This combination will accelerate the ability of Salesforce to deliver the integration of data across all aspect of a company – Data Cloud, Tableau, Mulesoft and Customer 360 – leading to the emergence of intelligence agents across all businesses.
Amit Walia, CEO of Informatica, agreed: “We have a common vision to bring data and AI to life. He thinks the combination with Salesforce will allow companies to realize the full value of their data in the age of artificial intelligence.
The transaction is expected to bring several positive outcomes:
Expanded Data Capabilities: Informatica’s capabilities will advance Salesforce’s new Customer 360 Data Manager, automating critical business processes such as onboarding and compliance.
Better AI Trust and Safety: Through the integration of Informatica’s data governance and quality tools, Salesforce seeks to create more responsible and reliable AI systems, which are instrumental to enterprise deployment.
AI Innovation Acceleration: The newly combined organization will be a leader in AI innovation to add more intelligent automation and decision making to more customer solutions.
Larger Market Footprint: Informatica has a significant customer base, which includes a large percentage of the Fortune 100. Salesforce.com can now sell to those customers in other markets.
The deal, which is anticipated to close by the early part of Salesforce’s fiscal year 2027, will be financed with a combination of cash and new debt.
Analysts suggest that this acquisition will bolster Salesforce’s position in the booming AI and enterprise data market, helping it deliver a more complete and unified suite of products to its customers.
This development highlights the growing significance of data management as a key enabler to drive successful AI adoption and innovation in the industry.
