When we think of PC gaming, Alienware has always been one of the first companies that comes to mind. The company, which is now owned by Dell, has always made the coolest PC cases, like the Area 51 Aurora. Even though they still make some pretty good pre-built PCs, the brand’s accessories are, well, less exciting. The Alienware AW420K is the brand’s newest gaming accessory. It is a wired mechanical gaming keyboard and the first tenkeyless (TKL) model from the company.
The Cherry MX Red switches, double-shot PBT keycaps, and per-key RGB are all that are included with the AW420K. It costs $149.99, which is a lot for a keyboard that doesn’t have many interesting or even different features. Alienware is no longer the only company that makes gaming PC accessories, so our list of the best gaming keyboards has a lot of other keyboards to choose from.

Alienware AW420K review: Design

The Alienware AW420K is a TKL mechanical keyboard that costs a lot but doesn’t have any features that make it stand out. It is black, wired, and has double-shot PBT keycaps, which are a nice touch of luxury and will last longer than ABS keycaps. The letters look fine on the keycaps, but the function keys look like they were stuck on.
It’s a little strange how they look like they were just stuck on. It’s not exactly an expensive look. Under the AW420K, there is a cutout for routing cables to the USB Type-C header and two feet that you can flip up. The metal switch plate would be nice if it covered the whole top of the case, but it doesn’t. You can buy this keyboard from its official website.
Alienware AW420K review: Software
Alienware’s Command Center is the software that runs the AW420K. This is useful because it lets you control all of Alienware’s peripherals. With Command Center, you can do everything from change the RGB lighting on each key to record and assign macros. The keyboard does have onboard memory, but it can only store five profiles. The Corsair K70 RGB TKL, on the other hand, can store up to 50 profiles and costs the same.
Alienware AW420K review: Price and Availability

In the fall of 2022, you should be able to buy the Alienware AW420K. So far, the company has only given prices for the US and Canada, where the TKL keyboard starts at a (relatively low) recommended retail price of $129.99. It is still not clear when the keyboard will be sold in Europe or how much it will cost.
Final Words
Alienware’s die-hard fans have been asking for a small, useful gaming keyboard for a long time, and the AW420K is finally here. It’s a great choice if you want to use the brand’s design ideas for your themed setup. But what’s even better is that it now has Cherry MX switches instead of generic or membrane ones.
