Amazfit GTR 4 review 2024: hardware is excellent

Many people who want to buy a smartwatch have to choose between two big brands: Apple and Samsung. The hardware on the Amazfit GTR 4 is great. It looks and feels like it was made to go up against smartwatches that cost a lot more. It also has a thin and light body, which makes it easier to wear than the Amazfit T-Rex 2, which we just reviewed. But we can’t say the same thing about how comfortable the rubber band that came with it is. After a day or two, it started to bother me on my wrist. 

This wasn’t the case with the bands that came with the Amazfit T-Rex 2, so it could be a problem with my unit this time. Thanks to the standard watch spring bar mechanism, it’s easy to change the bands, and you can use any 22mm watch band you want. All of the sensors are on the back of the watch. The thing we dislike most about the GTR 4 is that it’s too complicated. The GTR 4 from Amazfit has way, way, way too many features. We like to think of myself as a power user who likes to mess around in the Settings menu, but the GTR 4 was too much for me to deal with. On the watch’s main menu, you can choose from 30 different features and options.

By default, it’s all just one long list that you can scroll through. You can change it to a hexagon display in the watch’s settings, but then you won’t see all the icons at once and won’t even know what they are. Instead, you’ll have to scroll through groups of seven icons at a time to find what you’re looking for, which is a very annoying process.

We don’t know of any other smartwatch in this price range that has GPS with more than one band. The Garmin Forerunner 255 series is the next best thing, and it starts at $349.99.
