The Mac Studio is such a formidable piece of hardware that it was ultimately responsible for the discontinuation of the 27-inch iMac, which was a development that most people were caught off guard by. An further M1 processor, the M1 Ultra, was also unannounced when the Mac Studio was released. Quickly, people started wondering whether or not the Intel-based Mac Pro could be adequately replaced by the Apple Mac Studio, or whether or not creative professionals should hold off on purchasing new equipment until Apple releases its own silicon-based version of that machine.
We’ll save you some time right now by telling you that this is the best tool in its category for professional creatives and power users, provided that you can afford the price of admission. Dilettants and hobbyists, on the other hand, are unlikely to make full use of the Mac Studio’s excellent features and hence are unlikely to derive enough value from them. As a result, they are probably better off with something cheaper.

Hardware and Design

A new thing is the Mac Studio. But after Jony Ive left, its design team didn’t go that far to find design ideas. The Mac Studio looks like two Mac mini units stacked on top of each other, and it is 3.7 by 7.7 by 7.7 inches. The M1 Max models of the silver machine weigh 5.9 pounds, and the M1 Ultra versions weigh 7.9 pounds. Even though the difference in weight is big, it doesn’t matter much because the Mac Studio isn’t made to be moved. If it’s that important, you can now buy a carrying case for your Mac Studio.
No matter where you put it, the Mac Studio works best below a monitor or on either side. It’s no surprise that it looks great under the beautiful Mac Studio monitor. The back of the Mac Studio has four Thunderbolt 4 ports that handle Thunderbolt 4 (up to 40GB/s), DisplayPort, and USB 4 (up to 40GB/s). There is also an HDMI port, 10GB Ethernet, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack that works with high-impedance headphones or speakers. You can buy his speaker from its official website
Software
Adobe’s Creative Cloud, in particular, isn’t set up to work well with Apple’s plans. But Adobe has had a lot of time to catch up at this point. Apple has sold a lot of M1 devices, so there is a need for them, and Adobe is meeting it. Premiere, Photoshop, Lightroom,
Audition, Media Encoder, and more run directly on Apple Silicon, and After Effects is available in beta. And now, it seems like the story has turned around. The Mac Studio now seems to be one of the few computers that can fully use Adobe’s software.
Price and availability

The M1 Max form of the Mac Studio starts at a hefty $1,999/£1,999/AU$3,099. This makes it an expensive option. The Mac Studio, on the other hand, will cost a huge $3,999, £3,999, or AU$6,099 with the new M1 Ultra chip, 64GB of unified memory, and a 1TB SSD. This might turn off a lot of people. If you want to go all out, the M1 Ultra with 128GB of memory and an 8TB SSD will set you back a jaw-dropping $7,999, £7,999, or AU$12,099. Still, that’s less expensive than the most expensive Mac Pro.
Performance
When Apple announced the Mac Studio, it made some big claims, like that it’s 50% faster than the MacBook Pro 13-inch with M1 chip and has graphics that are 3.4 times faster than the most powerful iMac. It can also handle up to 18 streams of 8K ProRes video and is said to be 80% faster than a Mac Pro with a 28-core Intel Xeon processor. These claims are about what the Mac Studio with the new M1 Ultra chip can do. That’s the model we’re reviewing, and it’s likely that serious artists will be most interested in that model.
Verdict
The Mac Studio comes in a beautiful box, and once you take it out of it, the curved aluminum case looks and feels great. It’s about 20cm square, which is the same size as a Mac Mini, but it’s about 10cm taller. Still, that is a very good use of space. Its round base plate lifts it up a little bit from the desk, and if you flip it over, you’ll see air vents on the bottom that match the ones on the back.
Connectivity is split between the front and back. The front has one SDXC slot and two USB-C ports (Thunderbolt 4 on the Ultra). On the back, there are four Thunderbolt 4 ports, Ethernet (10Gb), two USB-A ports, one HDMI port, a mini-jack for headphones, and a power port.
