You may recall that we previously reviewed and adored the Asus ROG Delta S headset, and this is the follow-up. The Asus ROG Delta S Animate is a candidate for the greatest gaming headset currently available, and it undoubtedly has a rich history. As you’ll see, the main visual distinction between the Delta S Animate and the Delta S is that Asus replaced the RGB lighting with a monochrome, mini-LED dot matrix lighting system that can be customized to display different designs. We’ll be happy to help you out if you need any additional purchasing guidance to create the ideal gaming setup. Asus Rog Delta S Animate Headset review: Design
The design of the ROG Delta S Animate is quite straightforward. The single-colored mini-LED AniMe Dot Matrix display panels on the outer earcups are the largest upgrade. Previous iterations, like the ROG Delta S, include RGB lights and cup arcs on the outside. Overall, the Delta S Animate has a clean appearance. The ROG Delta S Animate weighs 310 grams and is light and comfortable enough to last for multiple sessions of gameplay lasting up to 45 minutes.
The leather ear cups’ D-shape gave me hope that they would adequately protect my ears while not pressing against my face, and they did not disappoint. Additionally, the headset offers mesh fabric cup options with leather interior linings. The extenders of the ROG Delta S Animate are composed of metal and plastic, and the band is also covered in light protein leather. However, the plastic used for the outer earcups contributes to the overall lightness of the device. The AniMe Matrix designs go well with the matte texture’s simple appearance. You can buy this headphone from its official website.
Asus Rog Delta S Animate Headset review: Comfort
Despite their official nomenclature, the “D-shaped” earcups on this headset remind me a lot like triangles. This is not anything I object to; in fact, I enjoy it when headphones choose to use earcups with different shapes in an effort to provide more comfort. I’m thoroughly enjoying this scalene triangle; bet you didn’t know you were using geometry! Nerds with curly hair, take note: The headband that covers your head is a cushion wrapped in PU leather.
While using these headphones, my hair has snagged very little. I also have no qualms about getting hair products on my headphones. It’s incredibly simple to clean. I clean the headset with a damp paper towel, and that’s it. Considering how massive and thick it is, the Animate is also surprisingly lightweight. It is not too heavy. Because of this, adjusting the headset while it’s on my head is simple.
Asus Rog Delta S Animate Headset Review: Noise cancelling
Most traditional listeners should be content with the ROG Delta S Animate’s default settings, but Armoury Crate also provides an audio profile with a number of parameters that may be changed for the best sound. Voice clarity, microphone noise gate, perfect voice, virtual surround sound, reverb, equalizer, bass boost, compressor, and A.I. noise cancellation for phone calls are among the possibilities.
Asus Rog Delta S Animate Headset Review: Audio performance
The headset has excellent audio capabilities, but how does it perform as a gaming headset? It’s a little more mixed, but comfort wins out. Two sets of ear cushions are provided by Asus in the box: one set of protein leather pads that are installed by default and one set of fabric and leather hybrid pads that are more breathable. Despite being nice and comfy, the basic leather pads tend to get hot, especially on the side with the controls (which also becomes warmer to the touch). The hybrid pads are able to fix this, although some bass is lost. The 310 gram weight is evenly distributed and balanced by the headband, thus I was able to wear them for extended periods of time without experiencing any head pain.
Asus Rog Delta S Animate Headset Review: Call performance
Seven different locations on the headphones can produce sound. You hear it in both ears front center, rear left, side left, front left, and front center. Front right, side right, and back right are the following. This enables every sound optimization to be distinct in addition to surround sound. Communication, for instance, solely employs front center. During my Discord calls, I became aware of the variations in settings. The Communication setting was enjoyable to use. Two of the spatial sound sendings were all that were needed, and that was adequate. Voices were audible to me plainly. Voices sound better almost as if the treble has been increased.
I first realized this headset is different when I was listening to Clipse’s “Grindin.” This $200 headset might compete with Beats by Dr. Dre. The best bass and subwoofer test is Grindin. I set the equalizer to Hip Hop, turned on the Bass Boost, and increased the volume after switching the sound optimization to Music. I turned on Virtual Surround Sound towards the end. I had the impression that I was in the studio hearing the beat for the first time while doing all of this. The Animate uses spatial audio really effectively. It’s incredibly engrossing. The desired result might be attained with ease.
Asus Rog Delta S Animate Headset Review: Final words
This headset has a number of features that make it pricey. The headset has outstanding construction quality and feels really well crafted. While the user is virtually completely unaware of the AniMe Matrix effect, it does look incredibly cool while it is in use. The audio quality of the Animate is disappointing, despite the excellent microphone quality.
The fact that ASUS didn’t simply create another bass-heavy headset makes me happy, but the sound is one-dimensional and closed off, and there isn’t much bass to speak of. The ROG Delta S Animate is ultimately a better device for flaunting on streams where its excellent microphone performance and cool lighting can literally and symbolically shine, but if you’re playing by yourself then you’re better off choosing a less expensive pair of headphones with a separate mic.
It’s been a while since we’ve reviewed a headset, and Asus has sent us the ROG Delta S Animate Gaming Headset, the latest version of the ROG Delta gaming headset. In our last review, we were quite critical of its older brother, so let’s check out the Delta S Animate and see if it addresses some of the Delta S’s frustrations.
- Great audio quality
- Customizable LEDs
