If you thought Asus was done releasing top-of-the-line gaming phones in 2022 because it just announced the great ROG Phone 6 two months ago, you should think again. The ROG Phone 6D and 6D Ultimate add to the current line with power from MediaTek, a mechanical air vent, and even a Batman Edition. The design of the 6D line is almost the same as that of the 6 and 6 Ultimate, except that it now comes in gunmetal grey.
In the Ultimate version of the 6D, there is also a flap around the back that rises when the AeroActive Cooler fan is connected. This improves airflow and heat control. The ROG Phone 6D and 6D Ultimate both have color screens on the back and are powered by MediaTek’s new Dimensity 9000 Plus chipset, but only the 6D Ultimate has advanced cooling.

Asus ROG Phone 6D Ultimate: Design
We wouldn’t go so far as to say that the ROG Phone 6D is modest, but for a gaming phone, it has a pretty simple look. It has the same general shape and style as the rest of the 6-series. It has rounded metal sides and a smooth, pearl-like, frosted glass back. The ROG Phone 6 was only available in black or white, but the 6D can be bought in Space Grey.
Which looks like gunmetal grey and is rich, though it doesn’t stand out as much as the white 6 Pro we looked at. The phone is tall and narrow, measuring 173 x 77 x 10.3 mm. It is bigger than most smartphones, but doesn’t feel too hard to use. It weighs 247g, which is more than the ROG Phone 6’s 237g. For reference, the 13 Pro Max and 14 Pro Max both weigh 240g. You can buy this phone from its official website
Asus ROG Phone 6D Ultimate review: Display and audio
The screens on ROG Phones have always been great, so it’s no wonder that the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate has a 6.78-inch AMOLED panel with great colors, deep contrast, a maximum refresh rate of 165 Hz, and a maximum brightness of 1,200 nits. It works with HDR10+, so you can watch all your favorite shows and movies on it.
We had no trouble using the screen during the day or at night, and its size was just right for the many times we used it to play games. We went through the settings, of course, to find a color calibration that we liked. These settings run from bright to dull, and from cold to warm. As for the frame rate, we prefer 120 Hz because 165 Hz kind of throws off the white balance.
Asus ROG Phone 6D Ultimate: Performance
The most important thing we learned from this is what it says about MediaTek. Having one of its Dimensity computers power a phone that is known as “THE” gaming phone and is at the top of phone performance should be great for the brand’s image, which is always changing. Not only that, but having benchmark scores that are better than the most popular smartphone platform provider won’t hurt either.
Asus ROG Phone 6D Ultimate: Battery life
The ROG Phone 6D Ultimate, like the ROG Phone 6 Pro, has a large, split 6000 mAh battery made by Asus. By splitting it into two cells, Asus spreads out the phone’s heavy weight, making it easier to hold for longer periods of time. It also keeps heat from building up. On the 6D Ultimate, playing games for half an hour used up 8% of a full charge.
While watching Netflix for an hour used up only 7%. That’s 1-2% more than the 6 Pro, but it’s still not bad. 2% was lost after an hour of playing music. As with the 6 Pro, a 65W fast charger is included in the box. This will get you to 46% in 15 minutes and get you to 85% in 30 minutes. Asus says you can get to 100% in 42 minutes, which is in line with what I’ve seen. This isn’t the fastest top phone, but it’s fast enough for a gaming phone with that extra-large battery.
Final Words
The Dimensity 9000+ is just as good as the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 that runs the 6 Pro. This is true for both speed and power efficiency, and the length of time a battery lasts is also a big plus. When mixed with the large, 165Hz screen, the gaming experience is one of the best you’ll find on any mobile device, as long as you’re happy with Android apps. When the phone gets too hot, you can connect the fan that comes with it and use the new cooling link on the 6D Ultimate.

FAQS
In September 2022, Asus revealed that the ROG Phone 6D smartphone would cost $989 (roughly Rs. 81,560 in India). The smartphone has an AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 165Hz and a size of 6.78 inches. You will also get safety from Gorilla glass Victus and water resistance to IPX4.
You should get a case, but you might feel a little more heat build up with it. Even though the ROG Phone 6 is first and foremost a gaming phone that does its job well, its high-end specs make it a good everyday driver as well.
