The HD60 X is Elgato’s newest capture card. It is meant to make streaming and recording a little easier for gamers with a modern, halfway decent gaming monitor. With 4K passthrough, this device has a little more to offer gamers with high-resolution screens. Though it’s also helpful if you use the G-Sync or FreeSync technologies, which the new HD60 X supports.
As with any capture card, figuring out the speeds and feeds can be hard. So let’s talk about the basics of this $200/£190 option. With the HD60 X, you have three main capture resolutions to choose from: 4K at 30fps, 1440p at 60fps, and 1080p at 60fps. Then, you can run up to 4K at 60fps or 1440p at 120fps for your passthrough resolution. There’s also support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) technologies like G-Sync and FreeSync, as well as HD.

Elgato HD60 X review: Design

This may seem like a small thing to say, but we love that Elgato has finally decided to put all of the connector ports on the back. The ports on old capture cards were on the left and right sides of the device in a strange way that made it hard to place on a desk while recording. There is an HDMI 2.0 port that goes in and out and a USB Type-C port that lets you connect to your PC or Mac. There is a USB Type-C to Type-A cable and an HDMI cable in the box.
At the same time, the back ports aren’t perfect either. Since the HD60 X is so light, HDMI cables tend to tilt it up at an angle if it is near the edge of a desk. We like that the HD60 X is light and easy to carry, but we would have liked it to have a bit more weight to keep the cables out of the way. You can get this external capture card from its official website.
Elgato HD60 X review: Performance
It’s important to say right away that when it comes to judging performance here, we our going by how we feel instead of what the numbers say. We could test the exact FPS performance and count pixels, but we don’t think that’s what’s important for a device like this. What we want to know is much simpler: Does the Elgato HD60 X capture good-looking video with the least amount of hassle, and is it one of the best capture cards on the market in 2022?
Elgato HD60 X review: Software
![Elgato HD60 X review 3](https://compsmgnew.robertdweide.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Capture-63-300x99.jpg)
The HD60 X is easy to add to and choose as a source in the software of your choice. Popular solutions like OBS, XSplit, and many others already offer integration, and transfers to Microsoft Teams and Zoom can be done without any problems. But if you don’t want to stream but just want to record your gameplay to use later.
The Elgato HD60 X gives you a lot of options that you can change in the software’s settings. You can add live commentary to videos and streams by plugging a microphone or headset into the 3.5 mm jack on the front of the device. The HD60 X makes its own music, and the volume of that music can be changed separately from the volume of the game sounds.
Elgato HD60 X review: Price and availability
The Elgato HD60 X is now on the market and costs $200. That costs the same as Elgato’s previous product, the HD60 S+, so if you already own this device and just want to keep recording in 1080p, you probably don’t need to upgrade. But if you want to enjoy 4K passthrough, or if you haven’t bought your first capture card yet, this might be the upgrade you need.
Final Words
Even though it doesn’t support HDMI 2.1 resolutions and refresh rates, it can passthrough 4K60 and 1440p120 with VRR, which covers most displays and TVs used to play and stream games.
The Elgato HD60 X is a capture card that can capture and stream in 1080p60 with no lag. This makes it ideal for streaming and capturing on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. With the goal of either streaming on Twitch or posting some videos on YouTube.

FAQS
Is Elgato hd60x worth it?
We didn’t like Elgato’s own software for capturing, but the hardware worked great in OBS Studio. For $200, the HD60 X is a compelling device that gives you options for what you want to record or stream, depending on whether the content is better for smooth action or fine detail.
Does Elgato HD60 X have delay?
Elgato Game Capture HD60 lets you record video games on your computer using a USB 2.0 connection while you play them live on your TV or another HDMI-connected display. Due to the H.264 codec, the picture in the Elgato Game Capture HD software on your Mac or PC will be almost a second behind real time.
Why do streamers use Elgato?
It lets you automate basic tasks like switching scenes and going live, but the same platform is useful even if you don’t play games for an audience. We love using gaming accessories at work, so it was only a matter of time before the Stream Deck joined the productivity party.
