A few weeks ago, Geekom made a big deal out of announcing the Mini IT13. When it first came out, it said it was the “World’s first Mini PC powered by an Intel 13th Gen Core i9 CPU.” The news came as a bit of a surprise since the company’s Mini IT12 had just come out. But it’s always best to act quickly, and the Mini PC market seems to have gotten really hot lately. Intel pretty much quit the NUC market this summer, which gives this release some context and is especially important to Geekom.
As Intel was leaving, it threw its crown to ASUS, which was clearly going to take it over. That is, ASUS would make, sell, and support Intel’s 10th to 13th Gen NUC devices. They would also continue to do so for future generations. Between the echoes of “the king is dead, long live the king,” Geekom might be able to see a chance. Taking a solid shot at the NUC mini PC crown might be worth it, and the company’s launch of the Mini IT13 seems to have come at just the right time to jump into a big market opportunity.

GEEKOM Mini IT13 review: Build Quality and Finish

If you look closely at the main event, the very small Mini PC, it feels heavy and of good quality in your hand. Geekom says that this item’s frame is made of metal. So it is; we had to open the unit to check the motherboard. However, the metal frame is hidden by a hard plastic shell. It was pretty easy to open the Geekom Mini IT13. Before the bottom plate could be levered off, only four corner screws on the bottom had to be loosened (they are captive).
Once it’s off, it’s easy to get to the two DIMM slots and the two M.2 slots (one M.2 2280 PCIe Gen 4 x4 slot is filled with an SSD and the other M.2 2242 SATA slot is empty). However, the system can also fit a 2.5-inch SATA device internally and has an easy-access full-sized SD card slot as part of its I/O. Such is the power of built-in storage. The Mini IT13 seems to have been put through a number of tests to make sure it will last as part of Geekom’s development work.
The gadget seems to have been made to work in a lot of different temperatures and humidity levels. It has also been put through tests for vibration, drop, and even salt spray. From what I can tell, it’s partly aimed at the industrial, kiosk, and signage markets, but consumers can also benefit from its durability. Last but not least, Geekom’s strong belief in its seemed-well-made product is shown by its impressive three-year warranty.

GEEKOM Mini IT13 review: Usage
When you first start up, Windows 11 Pro asks you to finish setting it up. This saves you the cost of buying a license, which is a nice surprise. After finishing the setup, I’m happy to say that the Mini IT13 doesn’t come with any unnecessary software already installed. It comes with Windows 11 22H2, which means that only minor updates are needed. A strange message from Windows Security showed up, and it turned out that the Memory integrity setting wasn’t turned on. After finding it on the Core Isolation page and turning it on, the Windows Security app gave it a clean bill of health after a restart.
Similar to the Mini IT12 that came before it, the Mini IT13 has two full HDMI ports and two USB4 ports that can be used to physically connect up to four screens, if needed. There are the same types of ports and connectors as the last generation: one USB 2.0 port, one 3.2 gen 2 port, and a barrel port for power are all on the back. The front is the same as the Mini IT12; it has two USB 3.2 gen 2 ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack port. As shown in the pictures above, you can attach a Kensington lock to one side of the Mini IT13 and put an SD adapter for a micro SD card on the left side.
