It appears that Honor has adopted streamlined designs as their modus operandi. Honor debuted a foldable phone in the week before last that was both the thinnest and the lightest device of its kind the market has ever seen. A new mid-range slab phone has arrived, and in comparison to virtually every other amazing modern phone, it’s incredibly light and thin, which is a welcome change. In point of fact, we are going to take a chance and declare that the Honor 90 is the most ergonomically sound slab phone that has been made available for purchase this year.
The remaining components are quite standard for Honor’s midrange offerings. The phone offers a fantastic feel when held, an excellent battery life in comparison to other devices in its class that have the same or larger batteries, and several entertaining video recording settings. However, the encounter with the software makes me feel frustrated, as it always does.
Honor 90 Specifcations
The Honor 90 distinguishes out both visually and conceptually among other midrange smartphones. You won’t find many phones with a 200MP primary camera for this budget, and its big body and emphasis on display and battery metrics make it stand out from the crowd.

Honor 90: Design and build

Despite having a huge display, the Honor 90 maintains a sleek and thin profile. In addition to having curved edges, which make it comfortable to handle, and which will appeal to people who don’t want a phone that feels like a brick while it’s in their pocket, the design features a rounded back. All of it is, sadly, rendered meaningless by the decision to finish the Diamond Silver version of the phone in a really horrible textured plastic, which ranks among the worst phone finishes I’ve seen in years.
In fact, my initial impulse was to try to peel off what I imagined was a protective coating added at the factory until I realized that it was a key element of the phone. The bottom half of the rear is dotted with an effect that seems like bubbles caught under a screen protector. This effect gives the phone the appearance of having bubbles trapped behind the screen protector.
Honor 90: Screen
Almost up to flagship standards, this huge, curved (on all four sides), AMOLED panel has a variable refresh rate of 60, 90, or 120 frames per second but lacks support for LTPO technology. It’s incredibly clear, boasting a resolution of 2644 x 1200, and its screen is bright enough to be used in virtually any environment. Honor is also calling attention to the special measures it has taken to ensure the health of the user’s eyes when using the device’s screen.
Honor 90: Cameras

The Honor 90’s camera hardware is inconsistent. The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has a 200MP main camera, but here we have it as the highlight of a far more affordable phone. The Honor 90’s front-facing 50MP camera is also unusually high-resolution for a smartphone’s front shooter. The 12MP ultrawide camera and 2MP depth sensor on the Honor 90 are more typical of smartphones in this price range. The main camera on the Honor 90 shoots at 12.5 megapixels by default, matching the Pixel 7a. In contrast to the Pixel, the Honor’s camera can make use of the full resolution of its sensor. Both phones’ default resolutions are used for this evaluation.
Honor 90: Software
The Honor 90 comes preloaded with MagicOS 7.1, Honor’s take on Android 13.1 (Marshmallow). When compared to Google’s three-year and Samsung’s four-year update plans for new software, Honor’s guarantee of two years of full OS updates and three years of security updates is rather short.
With MagicOS, you have access to all of Honor’s signature features, such expansive folders, the ability to quickly access widgets by swiping up on apps, and synchronized data across all of your Honor smartphones, tablets, and computers. Magic Text, however, is all new to MagicOS 7.1. This enables you to read and interact with text in photos, such as opening linked contact or address information in the appropriate app, creating PDFs from recorded text.
Honor 90: Performance
The Snapdragon 778G Plus processor has been replaced on the Honor 90 by the more modern Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 Accelerated Edition chipset. This change can be found under the hood of the device. In comparison to the regular Gen 1 chip, Honor’s ‘Accelerated Edition’ is said to have improved graphics processing unit (GPU) and central processing unit (CPU) performance. From my initial views based on the testing that’s been done so far, I feel that this may be the area where the Honor 90 has had to make some concessions in order to land on its intermediate pricing point.
Honor 90: Battery and Charging
If performance is one area in which the Honor 90 does not quite meet my expectations, then I cannot say the same thing about the battery life. The Honor 90 does have life on its side, thanks to a big 5000mAh cell that it can brag about. This comes in handy because you’ll want to make the most of that eye-catching screen, so having longevity on your side is helpful.
In these first tests, we were able to extend the battery life of the Honor 90 to just under two days. While this was accomplished with normal (that is, not intensive) use, it does speak well that the Honor 90 will at least have plenty of juice left over at the end of a long day.
Honor 90: Price and Availability
Honor 90 can now be purchased in the UK and Europe for £449/€549 for 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage, or for £499/€599 for the 12GB RAM and 512GB storage variant. That means it faces stiff competition from the likes of the Pixel 7a, Galaxy A54, and the newest offerings from OnePlus and Nothing. The Honor 90 has the best screen and most storage space of the bunch, but if those aren’t dealbreakers for you, one of the other phones might be more appealing.
Final Words
The Honor 90 excels as a stand-alone midranger. The 200MP main camera can capture high-detail images in a variety of lighting conditions, while the phone itself is attractive and has a gorgeous display. We have no issues regarding the battery life or the functionality, especially considering the low price. It has one of the fastest quick charges (66W) and one of the largest storage capacities (512GB) in the mid-range (for the price).
