Foldables developed in China are making their way all over the world in an effort to challenge Samsung’s leadership position in the market, and the Honour Magic Vs is the most recent device to make its debut in other countries. The Magic Vs is the second-generation folding device by Honour. It builds on the V from the previous year by refining the moving parts, enhancing the camera system, and making adjustments to the screens and batteries. Late in the previous year, we were given an early peek at the Magic Vs, and while the hardware of that machine was ready for prime time, the software was not yet complete.
This one here is, so you’ll be getting the typical test results, including battery life (spoiler: it’s solid) and camera samples, both of which we weren’t able to test three months ago due to technical difficulties. The foldable OLED display on the Magic Vs measures 7.9 inches but can only reach a maximum refresh rate of 90 hertz (whereas Samsung’s Z Fold4 is capable of 120 hertz). According to Honour, it now has a brighter display than the one on the V, as does the cover display of the 6.45-inch model, which can refresh at up to 120Hz.

Honor Magic Vs: Design
We are going to talk about the creation of the Honour Magic Vs in a mostly good way, but there are a few things to worry about. The Magic Vs’s wide cover screen is easier to use than that of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, and that’s how I’ve mostly used it in the weeks I’ve had it. The keyboard is a little low on the screen, which takes some getting used to, but it’s fine once you do. But the usual keyboard is Microsoft’s SwiftKey. You can buy this phone from its official website
Honor Magic Vs: Display
The flexible display is the most interesting thing about the Magic Vs. It has a top screen and an inside screen, just like the Galaxy Z Fold 4. The vertical size of the outer screen is 6.45 inches, while the inner screen is 7.9 inches. Both screens were clear, fast, and bright, and they folded into each other without a noticeable gap.
Honour, unlike Samsung, decided to put better specs on the cover screen of its book-style foldable phone. For example, its brightness is higher (1,200 nits vs. 800 nits) and its speed rate is higher (120Hz vs. 90Hz).
Honor Magic Vs: Camera
On the Magic Vs, Honour includes a respectable variety of cameras to choose from. On the back of the phone is a main camera with 54 megapixels, an ultrawide camera with 50 megapixels, and a telephoto camera with 8 megapixels and a threefold optical zoom. You’ll discover punch-hole cameras with a resolution of 16 megapixels on both the back and the front of the phone.
Performance and software
Power is one thing Honour hasn’t skimped on. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is in the Magic Vs. It’s not Qualcomm’s newest top chip, but it’s still new and strong enough to keep up with the most demanding things you can do on a smartphone. Honour has also chosen to keep things simple for the world launch. There will only be one version, with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. That’s more than what Samsung gives you by default, which is another reason why the Honour may look appealing just based on price. If you look at benchmarking apps, the Magic Vs isn’t as fast as some of the new slab flagships, but it’s almost as fast as the Z Fold 4.
Honor Magic Vs: Battery life
The Magic Vs has a 5000mAh battery, which is one of the best you’ll find in a top-of-the-line phone. Even though it has two screens, this makes it a phone you can use all day.
In fact, we tried it out while we were covering the MWC 2023 trade show, which is where it was introduced to the world. That means I’ll be using it a lot, like by using mobile data, connecting my laptop to a hotspot, and taking a lot of photos.
Final Words
Overall, the Honour Magic Vs’s position on the market for foldable phones around the world is a good thing, since Samsung hasn’t had much competition outside of China for years. But by releasing a phone that was made for 2022 in 2023, the Magic Vs already looks a little old-fashioned.
The Honour has a lower price than other foldables and a great build quality, even though the hinge is different. Even when the next flexible phones from Samsung and Google come out, both of these will still be strong points.
