It has a big 16-inch screen, which makes it one of Huawei’s biggest PCs. Last year’s model was powered by AMD chips, but this year Huawei has moved to Intel chips. Was it a good idea, And does the new setting of the webcam make it worth it to upgrade.

Huawei MateBook D 16: Design

Huawei doesn’t seem to be ready to change how the MateBook series looks, since the MateBook D 16 looks almost exactly the same as every other laptop in the series. And while that isn’t always a bad thing, we wish the company would sometimes do something different.
This laptop only comes in one colour, which is “Space Grey.” We really hope that the company’s next laptop comes in more colours, because even though they look sleek and professional, we feel like they don’t have much personality. The MateBook 14s comes in a beautiful Spruce Green colour, so we don’t know why that choice wasn’t given here.
Display & Audio
This laptop is huge, with a 16-inch screen, but it’s not as big as you might think for a 16-inch Windows device. It’s 356.7mm wide, 18.4mm high, and 248.7mm deep, which is big but not too big. Even though the laptop is big in width and depth, it is thin and only weighs 1.7kg, which isn’t much for a 16-inch screen.
The D 16 has more ports than the older D 15 model so that it can keep up with current needs. The D 16 has two USB-C ports that can both send and receive data, and one of them has a DisplayPort. The D 15 didn’t have any USB-C ports. We have one normal USB port for USB3.2Gen1, one normal USB port for USB2.0, and one normal HDMI port. The D15 also gave the laptop a 3.5mm jack port that can be used for both a speaker and a microphone. You can buy this laptop from its official website
Keyboard & touchpad

The old D 15 keyboard didn’t have a number pad because it was only 15.6 inches wide and couldn’t fit a full-sized keyboard. The D 16’s 16-inch frame is big enough to fit a full-sized keyboard and still have keycaps that are big enough to type on comfortably.
We must have written and planned at least 3 reviews on the MateBook D 16 since I got the review unit. Thanks to the physical feedback you get when you press a key, typing is a great experience. Even when it’s going fast, it doesn’t make enough noise to bother other people. In a dark room, users can also rely on the well-lit keys to show them where to move their fingers if they get lost between steps.
Huawei MateBook D 16: Performance
There are two kinds of processors for the Huawei MateBook D 16: the Intel i5-12450H and the Intel i7-12700H. My machine came with an H-Series i7 solution, which is very fast for a laptop that costs £999.99.
If you look at the table below, you can see that the MateBook D 16 did well. In the GeekBench 5 multi-core test, it came in second, even beating the MacBook Air M1. It’s also noticeably faster than the LG Gramme 16 from 2022 because it has an H-Series (high speed) processor.
Huawei MateBook D 16: Battery life
The MateBook D 16 has a battery with 60Wh. That’s a small improvement over the AMD model’s 56Wh battery, but I was looking for more. Huawei doesn’t say how long it will last, which may be a sign.
In our test, the MateBook D 16 survived 8 hours and 49 minutes while looping a 720p video. That’s not very good, and you won’t be able to use it for a full day without plugging it in. This test is set to a brightness of 120 nits, which isn’t very bright. However, many everyday jobs drain the battery much faster.
Price and availability
The Huawei MateBook D 16 starts at £749.99 (about $910) for the basic model with 12th Gen Intel Core i5 and goes up to £999.99 (about $1,217) for the model we tested with i7. You can start pre-ordering on June 29, and if you buy one before July 12, you’ll get a free MateView GT 27 monitor. so we can spot a good deal when we see one. Really, a 27-inch screen for nothing! This puts the D 16 in direct competition with laptops like the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro in terms of price. You can buy this laptop straight from Huawei’s official store.
Final words
Even though it has a few small problems, the Huawei MateBook D 16 is without a question a good laptop that can be used for many things thanks to its specs and level of performance. This 16-inch laptop looks impressive and charming, but it isn’t thick or heavy like most laptops this size. If you want a laptop that is stable and easy to use, this one is a good choice. However, you should be aware of its battery life and storage size limits.
