In the past few months, Huawei has moved into the weird and wonderful world of accessories, where great items are popping up everywhere. The Huawei Freebuds Pro 2 are some of the best wireless earphones you can get right now, and the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro is a great smartwatch. But what if you could mix the two? This is the idea behind the Huawei Watch Buds, and it’s a great way to use them.
There are, of course, some problems. If you’ve ever used a Huawei watch, you’ll know exactly what I mean. The software can be limited, and it can be hard to set up if you don’t know much about sideloading apps. Also, it’s a little pricey, costing £449 in the U.K. But if you can get past those two problems and want a truly unique product, you should look into the Huawei Watch Buds.

Design and Screen

Huawei Watch Buds is a big smartwatch, so people with smaller wrists might not be able to wear it. In fact, its 47mm diameter and 15mm thickness make it the biggest smartwatch we’ve ever tested. Of course, room is limited, and we have to take into account the fact that the smartwatch has a pair of wireless earbuds that are 10mm thick on their own. The whole package weighs 66.5 grams, which is more than the 46mm Huawei GT 3 Pro (54g) and even the chunky Apple Watch Ultra (61g).
Huawei Watch Buds: Software & features
If you look at the speakers and wonder how you can tell the difference between the left and right channels, the software has a cool trick. Instead of putting a tiny sign on the earphone that says which side it goes on, the company decided to make each one work for either ear. You put them in your ears, move your head left and right, and it tells you which side is left and which side is right. I’ve used these a lot, and only once has it randomly turned on a switch. Aside from that, they’ve been great, and the directional audio works as it should.
Huawei Watch Buds: Sound quality

The sound comes from a quad magnet planar driver, and the earbuds are compatible with the SBC, AAC, and L2HD codecs. I like the sound, but we mostly like it when the Health app is set to the Default or Voices sound setting. When the bass gets loud, the Bass Boost setting shows how bad they are because the bass gets muddy and out of control. They’re great for relaxed listening, but don’t expect to do “critical” listening with them, which is what you’d expect from this type of product. You can buy this smartwatch from its official website
Fitness and sleep tracking
The Watch Buds have most of what Huawei has to offer as a fitness tracker and sports watch. It has 80 different ways to work out, but swimming isn’t one of them. It also seems to be missing the ability to import and navigate routes, as well as the new dual-band GPS mode that Huawei put in its GT Runner watch and the Huawei Watch Fit 2, which was supposed to make outdoor tracking more accurate but didn’t really work out that way.
Huawei Watch Buds: Battery life
The internal battery also charges the earbuds when they are put back in the watch, so any power you think you still have can be used up quickly. We put the earbuds back in the watch when it only had 19% of its juice left. Around 85% of the power was put back into the ears in about an hour. After a very short time, only 9% of the power was left in the watch. There doesn’t seem to be a way to bypass the charging system to keep the watch running longer, which could be a problem in some cases.
Final Words
The Huawei Watch Buds demonstrate that really wireless earbuds can be tastefully tucked away inside a highly competent wristwatch, but you’re going to have to pay a high price for it when you could potentially pick up a Huawei smartwatch with a more robust feature set and a separate pair of true wireless earphones for less money.
