Overview
LeEco is a name you have probably never heard of. However, the Chinese electronics company has been rising everywhere over the past year. It’s well-known in China for its TVs and phones, and it also has subsidiaries in the music, movie, and even bicycle-making businesses. Like many different Chinese phone makers earlier than it, LeEco is eyeing the US market, with its first providing being the Le Pro3. This $400 Android phone covers the basics, giving beautiful, respectable performance and battery life, though it misses the mark with its massively skinned software.
Design
LeEco’s phone has a metal physique with a very shiny look and feel, that puts a fingerprint reader on the back. It comes with a 5.5-inch screen; the phone is not at all hard to manage in one hand, and it helps that the physique is a bit thicker than a maximum of the slim profiles we’ve gotten this past year. The shiny material does take to fingerprints rather rapidly, however not egregiously. One major aspect to note is that there is no headphone jack found on this phone – an adapter needs to be used to port the USB-C. Speaking of audio, a bottom mounted speaker is accompanied by the phone speaker that works double time for calls and media.
Display
A 5.5-inch screen helps in the handling experience, though an reasonably priced phone like this had to cut a few corners to maintain the prices down. As such, this is an IPS display that comes with a 1080p resolution. As an IPS display, it does take plenty bright even in broad daylight. However, it appears a bit muted in its colors, noticeably missing in vibrancy and saturation.
Performance
We’ve to preference the performance aspect of this review by saying that the EUI LeEco put as the software is generally to blame for the hiccups experienced on this device.
I did play some good games on the Le Pro 3 that involved The Trail, one of the extra lag-prone gaming experiences available right now. It has a Snapdragon 821 performers just like the Pixel and also has a 4GB of RAM in the base model is enough for normal multitasking.
Camera
The Le Pro3 is also a letdown when it comes to imaging performance: Its 16-megapixel rear camera is miss or hit. In bright daylight, it get crisp, gorgeous photos, and I was happy to show off the attractive landscapes I shot with it. However, in low light, my sample photographs turned out muddy and dark whereas my colleagues’ faces seemed splotchy in a dimly lit bar. It also has a 8 MP front camera.
Specifications
Display: 5.5-inch IPS LCD
Processor: 2.35 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821
RAM: 4 or 6 GB
Storage: 32/64GB
Rear camera: 16 MP
Front Camera: 8 MP
Battery: 4,070 mAh non-removable
Battery Life
The Pro3’s massive 4,070mAh battery squeezed out a powerful 10 hours and 44 minutes on Engadget’s rundown test, which includes looping a high-definition video at 50 percent brightness. That’s longer than the Idol 4S and OnePlus 3 lasted in the identical test. Plus, it retains its power when idle.
Conclusion
The Le Pro3 feels prefer it prices hundreds more than its $400 asking price, and it performs effectively for the cash too. However, as LeEco’s first providing in the US, the Le Pro3 will get some important things wrong. Customers here aren’t likely to unlearn previous habits for a phone that’s not much better than equally priced handsets, so the different software and lacking headphone jack are missteps that will value LeEco customers. I also want the camera performed better in low light.
