The LG G1 TV from the previous year has been replaced with a second-generation OLED evo panel that features a specific heat-dissipation technology. This allows for a significantly brighter picture to be displayed without allowing the feared OLED burn-in to take place. There is more to this TV than simply its brightness, though; it features a revamped design for its Gallery Series.
The test results show that the LG G2 OLED TV has the highest peak brightness of any LG OLED TV in history. As a comparison to the greatest QLED TVs, OLED TVs normally have a disadvantage in this regard, but not anymore. This evaluation of the LG G2 OLED TV has converted us to believers in the OLED evo technology, even if we weren’t sold on it previously.
A new version of webOS, and high-scoring performance across the board, making it one of the greatest TVs that can be purchased in the market this year. This is LG’s most expensive 4K OLED TV of the year, with a price tag of $2,999 for the 65-inch set. Nevertheless, the premium features do come at a premium price.
LG G2 OLED TV review: Design
The LG Gallery Series Televisions place an emphasis on design, as one might guess from the name. The television set has a basic silver frame with a slight texture that wraps around it, yet this frame does not curve over the screen and instead maintains the look of having no bezel around it.
Because the body of the G2 OLED TV is only one inch deep, it is able to accommodate all that the TV requires; hence, it does not have a back protruding component box as some other OLED TVs do
In addition, a recessed mount and input panels may be seen on the back of the uniform chassis. Why is that? The LG G2 is not designed to be placed on a stand or mounted to the wall using a VESA mounting bracket of any kind. Instead, it is intended to be mounted using the specialized bracket that the manufacturer provides, which is included in the packaging.
We did ask for the appropriate stand to be tested, but it was a clear distraction from the flush-mount effect that was intended for the television, so you should plan on hanging the G2. In order to achieve the maximum look of the Gallery Series, LG suggests having a professional install it with a recessed AV box.
Even when we connected in a number of different peripherals at the same time, ugly connections were kept orderly thanks to an ingenious cable management system.
Ports and connectivity
The G2 is well-made, which helps to explain why it costs what it does. The back of the TV is made of brushed metal, which you probably won’t see much of. However, pop-out plastic panels cover the wall-mounting holes and ports, which are spread out across the back of the TV to keep the weight even.
The included Magic Remote is also thin and has an on-screen cursor that can be moved by moving your hand. You can also use more traditional buttons to move around. There are built-in shortcuts to Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, and Rakuten TV, and you can use either Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa quickly. You can buy TVs from its official website.
LG G2 OLED TV review: Picture quality
Even though the LG G2 has a beautiful picture, it might not be the right TV for you. This review will discuss the LG G2 OLED TV’s good, great, and even stupendous points. (And don’t confuse it with the old LG G2 Android phone, because it’s not that.) But we will also talk about why it might not be the best choice for everyone. In the end, we hope you’ll know if it could be a good way to spend time at home.
LG G2 OLED TV review: Sound
The G2 doesn’t just look good and take great pictures; it also sounds great, which is an added bonus. With its increased processing power, the Alpha 9 Gen 5 processor applies multi-layer deep learning to an audio signal, adding virtual rear and overhead channels to make the sound more immersive. This processing not only makes the sound feel more immersive, but it also pulls dialogue out of the mix to make it easier to understand, which is often very useful.
Obviously, a thin TV won’t have the bass you might want from a home theater setup, and virtual surround channels can’t match the real thing, so you’ll still need one of the best soundbars for LG TVs to get the full movie experience, but you won’t need one right away. Even by itself, the TV has a lot to offer.
LG G2 OLED TV review: Performance
The G2 gives its performance a little more presence and weight than without it. Voices are clear, and effects track well as they move across the screen. The performance as a whole, though, lacks intensity. In The Batman, the chase scene loses a lot of its power and energy, and the roar of the Batmobile, which was based on a muscle car, is quieter.
Even with Atmos, you don’t get a sense of height or width that goes past the TV’s frame. As Batman walks into the Iceberg club, the music seems to be “thumping,” but Bass Boost doesn’t make much of a difference. The G2’s speakers are tuned more toward the music in the club than the action on the screen. This makes the fight between Batman and the Penguin sound weak.
Price and release date
The LG G2 is in an elite group with only a few other top-of-the-line, premium TVs, none of which could be considered objectively better in all ways. The Sony A95K is just as great of a TV, but it costs a lot more and isn’t as bright on average. The Samsung S95B is also a strong competitor in the same price range but doesn’t have as much average brightness.
The Samsung QN95B is about the same price, has a good overall picture quality, and is brighter in all ways that can be measured. However, no matter how hard it tries, it can’t beat OLED when it comes to perfect blacks and uniformity of the screen.
LG G2 OLED TV review: Final Words
The LG G2 OLED is an expensive TV that comes after the LG G1 OLED. OLED TVs like the G2 are self-emissive, which means that unlike LCD panels found on other TVs, there is no backlight. This means that they can show a nearly perfect contrast ratio in dark rooms, with deep blacks and no distracting blooming or halo-effect around bright objects.
This smart TV has a unique design, and unlike most TVs, it doesn’t even come with a stand because it’s meant to be mounted flush to the wall with the slim wall mount that comes with it. It has the same webOS smart interface as other LG TVs, which has been slightly updated for 2022 by adding user profiles and making a few other small changes.
