The OnePlus Buds Pro 2 are the second version of the company’s high-end wireless earbuds. The first-generation model was a good try and a good overall product for $149, but the sound quality and noise canceling were not up to par. The Buds Pro 2 are supposed to be better in every way. They will have better sound quality thanks to a new dual-driver system tuned by Dynaudio, better noise cancellation, and longer battery life.
Spatial music with head tracking is also built into the new model, which is all the rage these days. The Buds Pro 2 costs $179, which is a little more than other headphones. This puts it closer to the more expensive competition from Samsung and especially close to the good $199 Sony Linkbuds S, which can often be found for as little as $149. That’s a lot of company, so let’s see if OnePlus’s newest phone can keep up.

OnePlus Buds Pro 2 review: Design
The look of the OnePlus Buds Pro 2 is very similar to that of its original. Both the case and the earbuds are almost exactly the same. The only way to tell them apart is to put them next to each other. For example, the case of the latest model is just a little bit bigger in every direction. The inside of the lid is cut out in a different way, and the earbuds are a little bit bigger, but everything else looks the same.

OnePlus Buds Pro 2 review: Software
We have always liked OnePlus’ software, even the current version of OxygenOS, which is basically ColorOS in a trench coat. It’s fast and gives you a lot of smart ways to customize it. In fact, OxygenOS (and ColorOS) has had a lot of tricks that Google and Samsung didn’t have until recently. For example, you can change the UI’s color theme and use finger gestures to start apps and tasks. In a similar way, I’m happy to say that the OnePlus Buds Pro 2 come with a great app.
Don’t get me wrong, you can use the earbuds just fine without the app. The Buds Pro 2 work with Android’s Fast Pair, so all you have to do to connect them to a newer Android phone is tap an on-screen message. But HeyMelody, the app, has a lot of other options.
OnePlus Buds Pro 2 review: Performance
The warm sound, easy-to-use settings, and comfortable fit of the OnePlus buds make them a good deal for the price. The Bose QC Earbuds 2 sounded bad right out of the box, but the OnePlus Buds Pro 2 sounded great right away. Adam Conway, on the other hand, thought the bass was too loud.
The touch screens on the stems work well, and each press makes a pleasant click. But because it doesn’t support swipes, the buds lack a key feature that other buds have: the ability to change the sound by swiping on the stems. In fact, you can’t change the sound just with the earbuds. You have to change it on the phone, which is a big mistake when so many of OnePlus’ competitors offer this feature.
OnePlus Buds Pro 2 review: Battery Life
The OnePlus Buds Pro 2’s battery life isn’t great, but it’s not bad either. With ANC on, a single charge will last five to six hours, and the case will give you about three full charges, for a total of 24 to 25 hours. If you turn off ANC, the buds’ battery life goes up to eight hours, and with the case, you get close to forty hours.
However, we don’t see why anyone who buys these buds wouldn’t want to use ANC, especially since the Smart ANC feature works so well. The buds have a fast charging feature that lets you get about two and a half to three hours of music out of ten minutes of charging. This can be helpful if one of your buds runs out of juice.
Conclusion
OnePlus and Oppo have worked together to make their true wireless audio products much better, and the OnePlus Buds Pro 2 is a great example of how to make a great product with its own unique features without having to start from scratch every time. There are some clear similarities between the Buds Pro 2 and the Oppo Enco X2, but OnePlus does just enough to give its new headset its own personality and style, especially in the way it sounds and how much detail it has.
