The Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro is a mechanical keyboard that continues Razer’s BlackWidow lineup. Users have the option of purchasing the keyboard with either linear or clicky switches, depending on their own preference. A sound-dampening foam layer, pre-lubricated stabilizers, dedicated macro keys on the left side of the keyboard, and a maximum polling rate of 8000Hz are some of the new features that have been included with this entry.

A rotary knob and a multi-function roller are also included on this keyboard. You can use the rotary knob to control the volume, browse through media, or alter the brightness of the backlighting and other keyboard settings using the multi-function roller. Utilizing the customization software, you are able to modify not only the functioning of these controls but also a broad variety of additional parameters.

We sometimes play with bigger decks so we can feel like we have everything we need at my hands. The last time we felt this much power, we were reviewing the Corsair K70 RGB Pro and called it a “feature-packed macro monster.” The Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro raises the stakes. We already liked Razer’s linear switches better than Corsair’s Cherry MX Browns, but the sound and feel of these switches on the V4 Pro are in a whole different league.

But the BlackWidow V4 Pro has (almost) everything that the K70 RGB Pro has and more. You get 8K hyperpolling for super low latency gaming, on-the-fly macro recording (with eight macro buttons to map), separate media controls (plus an extra command dial for more system-level controls), and USB passthrough. That’s a long list of features, and it’s rare to find such a well-rounded gaming keyboard.

But if you want to make as many changes as possible, the BlackWidow is for you. Razer started off 2023 with the BlackWidow V4 Pro, which is now one of my favorite things to use with my laptop. It’s one of the company’s most customizable keyboards yet, with features like a padded RGB-lit magnetic wrist rest and fast linear switches. It’s also great for getting work done, thanks to the new macro keys and the Razer Command Dial.

You can buy the Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro with either the Green switch, which is physical and clicky, or the Yellow switch, which is smooth and quiet. Serious typists or gamers might want the Green switch because it makes the keyboard louder, but we prefer the Yellow smooth because it has a longer trip distance and requires less force to press.

We put a sound clip of what the keyboard sounds like up there for you. It’s not too loud, but if the room is quiet enough, you can sometimes hear the spring action of the switches. My model was great for both daily typing and playing games. It has a range of 3.5mm, an actuation point of 1.2mm, a reset point of 1.2mm, and a 45-gram actuation. There is also a sound dampener on the Yellow switches to make things quieter. In the typing tests on Bing.com, I typed about 79 words per minute with this computer.

Price and Availability

The Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro is not the most expensive keyboard that Razer makes, but it is close. At $229 (about £190 or AU$330), it’s not for people who are easily discouraged. Still, it’s more than worth the price because it has a great set of features, is comfortable all day, and performs at the top of its class. More importantly, it keeps the same price as its predecessor, even though everything is getting more expensive, even eggs.

Final Words

The Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro is a great keyboard for gaming. It has very low delay, and the clicky Green switches have very low pre-travel and feel light to press, making them very responsive. Unfortunately, the way these switches sound and feel isn’t always the same. However, there is also a linear Yellow switch type that we don’t expect to have this problem. Still, the build quality is good, and it’s easy to use.
