Since its start in 1945, Sennheiser has been a leader in the field of audio technology. The company has made generations of microphones and headphones that are now standard in the pro audio world. They have also spent millions of dollars researching immersive audio over the past ten years.
This research led to the creation of Ambeo technology, which is at the heart of the excellent Ambeo Soundbar Plus we’re going to talk about here. Ambeo first showed up in a consumer audio device in 2019, in the form of Sennheiser’s huge Ambeo soundbar, which has since been renamed the Ambeo Max. Here is a link to TechHive’s review of the Sennheiser Ambeo Max from before the name change.

Sennheiser Ambeo Soundbar Plus review: Design and use
This brings us to EQ settings, which are a big difference between the Ambeo Soundbar Plus and most of its competitors. Most soundbars come with “modes,” which are like presets that help you get the most out of certain types of content. Neutral, Movie, Music, News, Sports, and Adaptive are the options on the Ambeo. The first five are easy to understand, and the sixth is an autopilot mode that responds to what you’re listening to.
Sennheiser Ambeo Soundbar Plus review: Sound quality
Liam James, the lead producer of Vergecast, says that the Ambeo is one of the best purchases he’s ever made for his living room. However, he admits that it’s “throwing money at a problem” to find the best sound solution for a New York City apartment.
Sennheiser’s goal with the Plus was to make a smaller, sleeker, and less expensive soundbar that still showed off the company’s skill at making sound that sounds like it’s coming from a large room by using advanced 3D audio processing. It works with Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and a number of wireless audio add-ons, such as AirPlay 2, Chromecast, Spotify Connect, and regular Bluetooth playback.
Sennheiser Ambeo Soundbar Plus review: Price
The first Sennheiser Ambeo Dolby Atmos soundbar came out in 2019 and cost a lot of money (in the UK, it was £2,199). Yes, it was pretty much praised by everyone, and it is one of the best soundbars, but at that price, it could only appeal to a small number of people.
So, Sennheiser did the smart thing and took away some of the bells and whistles, some of the size, and a big chunk of the price. Then, in a less smart move, they called the product they made “Ambeo Plus.” Yes, the smaller Ambeo sound bar has the word “Plus” in its name for some reason.
Final Words
The Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar Plus can be used for a variety of things. This high-end set-up is built well and can play a wide range of audio formats that you’re likely to find on streaming services and Blu-rays. With its AMBEO 3D mode, it gives you a wide surround sound, and for a stand-alone bar, it does a good job with Atmos content. Without a sub, it doesn’t have enough thump and rumble for movies and music with a lot of bass.
Sennheiser Ambeo Soundbar Plus Ratings
