In the last five years, the TCL 6-Series has become the best TV for the money because it has great picture quality and costs less than most other TVs. The new version pretty much does the same thing as the old one. Even though its rivals are even better now, the TCL 6-Series Roku TV is still my favourite in the middle price range, which is about $1,000 for a 65-inch size.
You can spend more money on a TV. But if you do that, you might as well get an OLED model like the LG C2 and be done with it. Some models that are a little less expensive, like the Vizio MQX, are also very good. But if picture quality is important to you, I think it’s better to spend more on this TCL.

TCL 6-Series (R655) review: Design
In 2022, the stand will be the most noticeable change to the TCL 6-Series. It has a central pedestal, which I think looks better than feet on the sides and also lets you use a narrower TV stand if you want. The dark silver metallic base matches the silver strip that goes around the edge of the screen. Like most TVs, the 6-Series looks like it’s almost all picture, with just a thin frame. You can get this tv from its official website.
TCL 6-Series (R655) review: Display
In HDR, a small white window that takes up 10% of the screen was used to measure the 6-Series, and the result was 1,122 nits. The Sony X95K, which is a much more expensive TV, got 910 nits from the same HDR pattern on the screen. That is pretty amazing.
To be fair, with a 10% white window, the Samsung QN90B’s mini-LED display can double this number (2,472 nits). Still, I’m impressed by how well the 6-Series performs when it comes to HDR brightness at its brightest.
TCL 6-Series (R655) review: Performance
With a 10% white window, the Samsung QN90B’s mini-LED screen can show twice as many (2,472 nits). Still, I’m impressed by how well the 6-Series works when it comes to HDR brightness at its brightest. Not only did its brightness stand out, but the 6-Series also has some of the best local dimming we have seen on a mini-LED TV this year.
It is just as good as the QN90B at limiting light bloom when a bright object moves in front of a dark background. We tried out a few different subtitle styles to see how bright, white text would affect the picture, and we are happy to say that there was very little haloing.
TCL 6-Series (R655) review: Price and availability
The 65R655’s list price of $999.99 places it dead centre among 6-Series models. The whole catalogue of related sets is as follows: Our 65-inch review device and the 55-inch variation both have the same technologies, so we expect similar performance from both.
The only real difference between the two will be the size of the screen. This item is available for purchase on Amazon. The 75- and 85-inch models of the TVs only offer a maximum of 120Hz for the variable refresh rate (VRR), while the 55- and 65-inch models support a maximum of 144Hz.
Final Words
The TCL 6 Series Roku TV is great if you want to watch movies in a room that is completely dark. It has a great contrast ratio and good Mini LED local dimming, so in a dark room, blacks look very dark and even.
Bright highlights stand out well in dark scenes, and blacks don’t look washed out, even though the local dimming feature raises them a bit. It automatically gets rid of judder from any source, so watching a movie is smooth. It does a good job of displaying 1080p content, like Blu-ray movies, but DVDs don’t look right.
