Vivo revealed that the Vivo X90 and X90 Pro would be available around the world. This was overshadowed by the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and its cheaper siblings. We wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t pay attention to this phone, since it’s another Android device that won’t be coming to the US, just like the Xiaomi 13 Pro.
The Vivo X90 Pro is unique and worth looking at because of a few things, though. For starters, it’s one of only a few phones with Mediatek’s top-of-the-line Dimensity 9200 processor, and it comes with its own display and picture co-processor, the Vivo V2. Even more interesting is that its main camera uses Sony’s hot 1-inch IMX989 sensor, which is the biggest sensor available in a smartphone so far.

Vivo X90 Pro: Design
The style of the Vivo X90 Pro makes it stand out from the crowd. On the back, you can choose between black or red vegan leather, which we wasn’t sure was a good idea at first. But the back is one of the least fingerprint-prone we have ever seen, and you can hold it better than you could with a glass finish. You’ll also notice right away that the top of the phone has a big round array of cameras, which makes the Vivo X90 Pro look like the famous Nokia Lumia 1020.
Screen & sound
Even though it’s not a bad screen, the display is one of the few places where the X90 Pro doesn’t go all out. You get a big AMOLED screen that is 6.78 inches across and has curved edges that make it easy to hold. The resolution of 1260 x 2800 is enough, but it’s a step down from last year’s X80 Pro, which had a QHD+ screen, as do many of the X90 Pro’s competitors.
In the same way, the 120Hz resolution is fine, but it’s a shame that Vivo didn’t use a current LTPO display with a fully dynamic refresh rate from 1-120Hz. This would allow the phone to save battery when the fast refresh isn’t really needed. You can buy this phone from its official website
Vivo X90 Pro: Camera & video
As you might expect, the bigger sensor lets the camera take in even more light, especially when paired with 16-in-1 pixel binning technology, an f/1.75 aperture, and the dedicated V2 image processor in the X90 Pro. This takes pictures with a lot of detail and color and a wide range of light, even when the lighting is hard.
The main camera on the Vivo X90 Pro does a great job in tough situations, like when I want to take a picture of my dog in the park with a lot of backlight or when we want to take a picture of London at sunset on my way home from work.
Performance and software
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipsets have been used in more luxury phones in the past, but MediaTek, a competitor, has made a lot of progress in recent years, especially at the top of the market. Keeping this in mind, Vivo chose to go with the high-end MediaTek Dimensity 9200 chipset instead of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 that most flagship competitors use.
You’ll run into a few problems when you first start using the camera. By default, the software will add a label to your photos, so that everyone who sees them will know that you took them with the Vivo X90 Pro. This can be turned off in Settings, but it should already be turned off. When you first start using portrait mode or taking selfies, you should also turn off the camera’s suggestion to use the beauty mode.
Vivo X90 Pro: Battery life
Even though it has a 4,870mAh battery instead of the 5,000mAh battery found in high-end rivals like the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and the OnePlus 11, the battery life is on par with the other flagships in 2023. But like those devices, the Vivo X90 Pro’s battery doesn’t fight to last all day, even if you use the phone a lot.

The Vivo X90 Pro is a powerful top phone, and its camera may be the best you can buy outside of China. However, it’s not perfect. The X90 Pro is always good and often great in its monitor, chipset, and software experience, but it is never the best.
All of that changes when it comes to the camera. The Vivo phone is almost unbeatable when it comes to the camera, especially the main camera, which is simply the best. The only real gripe about the camera is that it doesn’t have a periscope lens like some of its competitors, like the Samsung S23 Ultra.
