Everywhere you look, it has high-end specs and an over-the-top design. It costs €1,299, which could be anywhere from $1,300 to over $1,500 when it comes out in the US. So, let’s look at what you get for that money when you could get an iPhone 13 Pro or Galaxy S22 Ultra for less.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra is proof that Samsung knows what power users want. This new beast has the best part of the Galaxy Note and a ton of other improvements. Yes, the S Pen is built in, but this flagship phone from Samsung has a lot more going on as the company tries to top our list of best phones. First of all, the S Pen is easier to use because Samsung made it 70% faster and less laggy. The screen is also brighter and has more colors than anything else we’ve tried. The 45W charging is also faster.

The ROG Phone 6 Pro is a gaming phone, which it doesn’t try to hide. It’s taller than a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and even thicker and heavier at 10.3mm and 239 grams. Don’t get me wrong—if you want to carry the ROG Phone 6 Pro around all day, you have to work for it. It will make your pocket heavy and take up a lot of room in your bag. Because of its size and weight, you’ll have to give up some things if you want to use a thinner, lighter smartphone.

Also, the 6.8-inch screen is slightly curved, which looks nice and keeps you from accidentally touching the screen. The only thing we don’t like is that it can be hard to type words or move the cursor on the far left or right sides of the screen. Even though the S22 Ultra has a slightly bigger screen than the 6.7-inch iPhone 13 Pro Max, it is lighter: 8.07 ounces vs. 8.5 ounces.

As the most important part of a phone for gaming, the screen on the ROG Phone 6 Pro is very good. With a resolution of 2488 x 1080 and a size of 6.8 inches, the screen is great for playing games. The FHD+ resolution is clear, and the AMOLED screen’s bright colors and deep blacks make it a pleasure to watch.

The Ultra Galaxy S22. As before, you get a refresh rate of 120Hz, which made scrolling smooth when we used it. And gamers should like the fact that the touch sampling rate is 240Hz. But there are two big improvements to the display here. The first is that the screen can get as bright as 1,750 nits, which might be the brightest we’ve ever seen. (The standard brightness level is 1,250 nits, which is still very bright.)

When it made the ROG Phone 6 Pro, Asus kept the two-cell battery design from the ROG Phone 5. The 6,000 mAh is actually made up of two 3,000 mAh batteries on either side of the system-on-chip in the middle.

Since an Android phone with 5,000 mAh is already huge, a 6,000 mAh power pack is huge. We put the ROG Phone 6 Pro through our own custom battery life test. In this test, we set the phone’s screen brightness to 150 nits and then made it reload web pages over a cellular connection over and over again. 

In a lab test done by our parent company, Future, the Galaxy S21 Ultra’s battery lasted a very nice 11 hours and 25 minutes at 60Hz. Using the same test, though, the Galaxy S22 Ultra only lasted 8 hours and 50 minutes. Even though synthetic tests don’t always give a good idea of how something will work in the real world, this one should give you a good idea of what to expect.

The ROG Phone 6 Pro is miles ahead of other gaming phones we’ve seen so far because it has the new Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset. The Plus version of Qualcomm’s 2022 flagship system-on-chip is supposed to fix some of the heat and power management problems of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, and this is the first phone where we’ve been able to see this in action. 

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is one of the first phones to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, a 4nm chip that promises better CPU and graphics performance while being more efficient. In international markets, Samsung will sell its own 4nm Exynos 2200 chip. Even though the Galaxy S22 Ultra only has 8GB of RAM, apps open and close very smoothly. 

Which one should you buy?

If gaming is important to you and you want a phone with features designed for gaming, the Asus ROG Phone 6 Pro may be a better choice. It has a display with a refresh rate of 144Hz and features like ultrasonic touch sensors and AirTrigger buttons.

On the other hand, the Samsung S22 Ultra might be a better choice if you want a high-quality camera and a price that might be more reasonable. It has four cameras with high-resolution lenses, and its performance and features should be better than those of previous models.
