We were impressed by the Fitbit Inspire 2’s simplicity, unobtrusive design, long battery life, and heart rate monitoring. It functions well as a simple multi-sport tracker or as a tool to encourage a more active lifestyle. After a year, we were less enthusiastic about having to pay the cost of the device again for a subscription to maintain access to the app’s premium features. Its display is also too small to fully utilize its sports-specific features.
In addition to viewing this information on the watch, you can always access a page on your phone that displays your total number of steps, distance traveled, calories burned, and a plethora of other metrics. Ingeniously, the Inspire 2 will also autonomously detect your daily activities, including walking, swimming, cycling, kicking a ball, and over 20 other activities.
However, despite having an accelerometer, the Fitbit Inspire 2 lacks built-in GPS monitoring. Bluetooth, which can determine your location when connected to your phone, will be more susceptible to confusion if you switch it off, such as mistaking a bicycle ride for a brisk walk. Thankfully, the app makes it simple to redesignate any misidentified activity in the future.
