If you have used the first Ultimate Ears WONDERBOOM, the WONDERBOOM 2 will feel like home. It looks almost the same, but the elastic loop and “outdoor boost” button on the bottom panel have been changed. Like the last one, this curved cylinder floats, so you can play music from the middle of your pool party. It has two 40mm drivers and two passive fans, which is enough to make waves.
The familiar plus and minus buttons are still on the right side of the speaker. Just like the first WONDERBOOM, hitting both buttons at the same time makes a tone that shows how much battery is left. It’s a good idea, but the papers doesn’t say what battery level goes with each tone, so it’s not very helpful. On the top panel, there are three separate buttons for power, pairing with Bluetooth, and controlling music. It’s strange that you can skip songs but can’t go back to the one before. You will need your phone to do that.

Where to get ULTIMATE EARS WONDERBOOM 2 speaker?
A built-in microphone is also missing, which is strange. We’ve seen waterproof speakers with this feature, like the Bose SoundLink Micro, so it’s not a problem with technology. A portable speaker isn’t the best way to join a phone call, but it can help when you need to give voice instructions. But not being able to use Google Assistant isn’t always a deal-breaker. After all, this is sold more as a camping buddy than as anything else.
Now, the top chord loop is flat and stretchy, and there is a rubber slider in the middle. We like this better, since we make many of the changes. The Wonderboom 2 comes in red, black, blue, gray, and a millennial pink color that UE calls “Just Peach.” Gone, at least for now, are the tie-dye and wavy designs.
The Wonderboom 2 sounds as smooth and clear as we could hope for at this price. The presentation also gets better. The sound of the double bass makes it possible to hear subtle differences in the music that weren’t clear in the original.
