Mphasis reported a 19.6% year-on-year increase in net profit to ₹561.1 crore for the second quarter of fiscal 2027, according to results reported on November 7. Revenue for the three months ended September 30 rose 17.4% from a year earlier to ₹4,580.9 crore and increased 4.5% sequentially. In dollar terms, the company reported revenue of $486 million, with constant-currency growth of 9.7% year on year and 3.3% quarter on quarter. The figures indicate continued growth for the Bengaluru-headquartered IT services provider, although reported revenue and constant-currency growth measure different things.
The results release adds detail beyond the headline profit and revenue figures. Mphasis reported new total contract value wins of $466 million during the quarter, with 66% described by the company as AI-led. Gross margin was 27.1%, operating margin was 14.8%, and earnings per share rose 19.2% year on year to ₹29.4. These indicators give a more complete picture than net profit alone: they show deal momentum and the margin profile, while also leaving questions about how much of the new contract value will convert into revenue and when.
Mphasis operates in technology services and digital changeation, with work spanning application development, cloud, data and AI, and services for financial institutions and other enterprises. Those markets are being reshaped by customers trying to modernise legacy systems while adopting generative AI. For service providers, the commercial challenge is to turn pilots into production projects that have measurable value, integrate with existing technology and meet security and regulatory requirements. Revenue growth can reflect demand, but the quality and durability of that growth depend on project economics and repeat business.
Reading the quarterly numbers
The 17.4% year-on-year revenue increase and 4.5% sequential rise provide two different views of performance. Year-on-year comparisons measure the latest quarter against the same period a year earlier and can reflect changes in business scale, currency and the mix of contracts. Sequential growth compares with the immediately preceding quarter and can give a closer indication of recent momentum, although seasonality and project timing still affect the result. The constant-currency measure aims to reduce the effect of exchange-rate movements when comparing periods.
Net profit of ₹561.1 crore was 19.6% higher than the year-earlier period and 14.6% higher sequentially. Operating margin was 14.8%, flat quarter on quarter but 50 basis points lower year on year, the company says’s results summary. Profit growth outpacing revenue growth can indicate operating use or a favourable mix of work, but the margin comparison shows why the result should not be reduced to a single headline. The next quarters will show whether new wins translate into providey growth without further margin pressure.
The dollar revenue figure of $486 million is also useful because many global technology services contracts are priced in dollars. Constant-currency growth of 9.7% year on year suggests that the company’s underlying revenue expansion was not solely a result of currency translation. The sequential constant-currency increase of 3.3% shows that growth continued from the previous quarter. However, these numbers do not reveal whether the company is winning larger strategic programmes, expanding existing accounts or benefiting from shorter-term project demand.
The market for technology services
IT services companies are navigating a period in which clients are investing in AI but also scrutinising costs. Enterprises may spend on data platforms, cloud migration, cybersecurity and AI-allowd workflows, yet demand that suppliers show measurable returns. Providers that can combine consulting, engineering, implementation and ongoing support may be better placed to capture work than firms selling isolated pilots. Mphasis’s reported quarter should be read in that wider market context, rather than as evidence that every segment of enterprise technology spending is accelerating.
The latest figures show Mphasis growing revenue and profit in the September quarter, but they are only one part of the operating picture. The next indicators to watch are management’s outlook, large deal activity, margin trends, employee utilisation and the rate at which AI-related work becomes billable providey. For enterprise customers, financial performance can signal the stability of a potential technology partner, but procurement decisions should still be based on providey capability, security practices, relevant expertise and the fit of the proposed team.
