Cognizant has unveiled a renovated 139,000-square-foot campus in Pune, expanding its workplace capacity and upgrading facilities used by teams provideing technology services to global clients. The company said on November 5 that the four-block site now provides 1,270 work seats, up from 960, alongside a new amphitheatre, a larger cafeteria, a multipurpose hall and upgraded wellness facilities. The opening is part of Cognizant’s effort to align its physical workplaces with its AI Builder strategy and its long-standing presence in India’s technology services sector.
The renovated campus covers 139,000 square feet across four blocks. Cognizant said the work included changes to interiors, building services, the exterior facade, surrounding areas, technology infrastructure and employee amenities. The company described the project as an upgrade intended to improve safety, reliability, efficiency and workplace performance. It did not announce a new site or disclose a separate investment figure for the renovation, so the development is best understood as a modernisation of an existing Pune operation.
The clearest capacity change is the increase from 960 to 1,270 work seats. That represents 310 additional seats, or roughly a 32 per cent increase in the campus’s stated seating capacity. The number should not be confused with a hiring commitment or a headcount announcement. Work seats indicate the facility’s capacity, but the company has not said that all seats will be occupied immediately or that the expansion directly corresponds to 310 new jobs.
The renovation adds seats and shared facilities
The updated campus includes an open-air amphitheatre with approximately 350 seats, a cafeteria with around 540 seats and a multipurpose hall with capacity for 255 people. Cognizant also said it added a wellness centre with a modern gym and a dedicated yoga room. These facilities aim to support collaboration and employee experience, but the company has not provided operating schedules, attendance data or a separate assessment of how the new spaces will affect productivity.
Cognizant’s India leadership connected the project to its AI Builder vision. Rajesh Varrier, president of global operations and chairman and managing director of Cognizant India, said the Pune centre had developed into a key hub for advanced technology solutions over two decades. The company presents the renovated environment as a place where associates can collaborate, innovate and provide services to enterprise clients. That positioning reflects the wider shift among IT services firms toward building and integrating AI systems rather than focusing only on traditional application maintenance and outsourcing.
Cognizant links the campus to its AI Builder strategy
The company’s AI Builder language refers to its effort to help clients move from AI investment to operational applications. That work can involve data engineering, software development, cloud infrastructure, enterprise integration and the redesign of business processes. A modern office does not itself create AI capability, but a larger and better-equipped workplace can provide space for teams to work together, train staff and engage with clients. Cognizant has not said that the Pune campus will be dedicated exclusively to AI projects.
Pune is one of several established technology centres in Cognizant’s Indian network. The company lists operations in Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi-NCR, GIFT City, Hyderabad, Indore, Kochi, Kolkata, Mangaluru, Mumbai, Pune and Visakhapatnam. The Pune site So sits within a distributed providey network rather than functioning as a standalone headquarters. Its role will depend on the clients and service lines supported by teams based there, details that were not broken down in the campus announcement.
The Pune investment sits alongside a wider talent ecosystem
The announcement also showed Cognizant Outreach, the company’s associate volunteering programme. In Pune, Project Dhyeya began in 2017 with a focus on STEM education for students from lower-income backgrounds who show academic promise. Cognizant said more than 250 volunteers have contributed over 10,000 hours of learning and that the programme currently supports more than 650 students from Class 8 through graduation. The company also said some participants have entered institutions including IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIIT Allahabad, VIT Pune and PICT.
