If you don’t want to take both a laptop and a tablet with you, then a convertible 2-in-1 ultrabook might be the solution. Usually, there are some trade-offs, and very few laptops offer the best of both devices. The Surface Book arguably has the fewest commitments, but it’s also expensive. You could buy a tablet and laptop separately and still have money left over related to purchasing a Microsoft Surface Book. Although many 2-in-1 ultrabooks run Windows 10, which makes sense, there are a few in this list that comes with an alternative Android OS, so there are lots of choices.
However, a convertible laptop might not have many ports (though some have full-size USB Port). They are thinner and lighter than a hybrid notebook, making them exceptional for traveling.
Best 2-in-1 Ultrabooks
The best 2-in-1 ultrabooks will satisfy your inner desire to flip, transform, and flex your device into flexible states, including tablet and tent mode.
HP Spectre x360
The Spectre x360 13 is the best 2-in-1 ultrabook ever. Updated with a 10th generation CPU and a more modern design, the Spectre x360 13 has been improved in almost every respect over its excellent predecessor. Highlights of this laptop include a beautiful design that flaunts faceted edges and beveled corners. Those precision-cut details make the HP Spectre look more like a piece of jewelry than a gadget.
Along with that, stunning design is a stunning 1080p display, epic 13+ hours of battery life, and fast overall performance. There’s almost nothing the Spectre x360 13 doesn’t do well, although the speakers could use some tuning. We set the Spectre x360 13 up against some of our other favorite 2-in-1 laptops, including Dell’s XPS 13 2-in-1 and Lenovo’s Yoga C940, but none of these great competitors could dethrone the HP.

Dell XPS 13 2-in-1
The new Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is one of the best 2-in-1 ultrabooks out there. It’s ridiculously sleek, offers reliable performance thanks to the 10th generation Intel Core processor, and has a beautiful 16:10 display that radiates over 500 nits of brightness. On top of having a sequential hinge, it also comes with a variable torque that makes the lid to be lifted open without the ultrabook wobbling or moving. Combine that with its 0.3~0.5-inch thin chassis; the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is easily one of the best 2-in-1 laptops you can buy.

Lenovo Yoga C940
With the Yoga C940, Lenovo took a proven formula and refined it. Subtle design improvements, extended battery life (up to 11:46), and revamped 10th generation Intel processors make the Yoga C940 a worthy successor to last year’s outstanding Yoga C930. As you’d expect from a Yoga series laptop, the C940 has a premium, ultra-portable chassis and a unique hinge that also serves as a soundbar speaker. As a 2-in-1, that hinge can rotate 360 degrees to turn the Yoga C940 into a real tablet.
When it comes to viewing content, the Yoga C940’s 1080p and 4K displays are bright, rich, and vibrant — beware, the UHD display takes the battery out of sight. For the basics, my favorite things about the Yoga C940 are the extra features. Those include a webcam cover (no more tape needed), a slot for the included stylus, and a fingerprint sensor. Overall, this is one of the best 2-in-1 ultrabooks to buy right now.

HP Envy x360 13
The HP Envy x360 13 is one of the best 2-in-1 ultrabooks on the market right now. Although it doesn’t come with a stylus (nor does the Surface Pro), the Envy is a 2-in-1 so you can flip it over in tent or tablet mode. What makes this such a great value is the all-aluminum design and Herculian AMD Ryzen processors. In our tests, we found that an Envy x360 13 with a Ryzen 5 4500U CPU can outperform laptops with 10th generation Intel chips.
This particular Envy costs just $800 and can outperform devices costing more than $1,000, including the expensive MacBook Pro. Plus, the Envy x360 13 features a bright, vibrant 13.3-inch display and a comfortable keyboard. There’s little we don’t like about the Envy x360. If you can get over the lack of a Thunderbolt 3-port and IR camera, it’s the ultimate money-saving laptop.

Asus Chromebook Flip C436
Asus has found his throne on top of our Best Chromebook ranking with the new Chromebook Flip C436. New in this year’s model is a larger 14-inch display, slimmer display rings, and improved performance thanks to an Intel’s 10th gen Core i3-10110U. This convertible doesn’t just impress on paper either. The 1080p display is in full view, and we’ve been able to use the batteries for more than a day during our field tests. Sure, the $1000 Flip C436 is a bit pricey for a Chromebook, but there’s no better option on the market at the moment.

Microsoft Surface Pro 7
Surface Pro 7 makes an excellent laptop in last year’s Surface Pro 6 and gives it a power boost. While the battery life is a hit, the new 10th generation CPU delivers excellent performance. The design hasn’t changed at all, but the Surface Pro 7 now has a USB-C port for charging and connecting peripherals. Microsoft still sells the comfortable Alcantara Type Cover and super-responsive Surface Pen, making it easy to draw or take notes on the tablet’s vibrant and bright 12.3-inch display. Overall, this is one of the best 2-in-1 ultrabooks right now.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga
Lenovo took a chance with the ThinkPad X1 Yoga, the first metal ThinkPad, and it paid off. While we still love the distinctive matte-black carbon fiber found on most ThinkPads, the aluminum and magnesium ThinkPad X1 Yoga is a nice change of pace. Not only does it have a sleek design, but this convertible 2-in-1 ultrabook comes with a bright display and offers a best-in-class keyboard and long battery life. You’ll also get plenty of extras, like a built-in stylus slot and a webcam cover. There’s simply no better business convertible than the ThinkPad X1 Yoga, apart from HP’s stunning new Elite Dragonfly.

Microsoft Surface Book 3
The 15-inch version of Microsoft’s Surface Book 3 is a stunning technical performance that packs a powerful Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti GPU into the base of a detachable 2-in-1. With that kind of graphics power, you can edit 4K videos or create professional 3D animations while connected to the keyboard and then turn off the screen for drawing or taking notes. Surface Book 2 also features a brilliant PixelSense display, a powerful Intel 10th Gen Core i7 CPU, and over 11 hours of battery life in laptop mode. Overall, this is one of the best 2-in-1 ultrabooks.

HP Elite Dragonfly
HP’s Elite Dragonfly has redefined what it means to be a business laptop. This beautiful laptop has a breathtakingly elegant chassis with a unique dark blue finish. The design is as practical as it is attractive; the Elite Dragonfly has flexible hinges that convert the laptop into a tablet, and at 2.2 pounds, it is one of the most portable 13-inch laptops available.
You’ll have to take your eyes off the Elite Dragonfly‘s aluminum body to appreciate its bright and vibrant 13.3-inch display. But the Elite Dragonfly’s greatness doesn’t stop there. It also features a surprisingly comfortable keyboard, fast performance, and a host of security features, including an IR camera, a fingerprint sensor, and the durability of the MIL-SPEC-810. Overall, this is one of the best 2-in-1 ultrabooks that you can buy right now.

Samsung Galaxy Book Flex 15
The Samsung Galaxy Book Flex 15 is the world’s first QLED display, which means you can focus your eyes on a colorful, super-bright screen – and you don’t have to sacrifice too much battery power to get it. When we tested the beautiful royal blue Flex 15 in our lab, the laptop gave us as much as 15 hours of battery life. Ah, we don’t have to imagine a world where we can spend all day on our 2-in-1 without worrying about battery life; Samsung made it possible.
Another attraction of this great Samsung 2-in-1 is the built-in S-pen and touchpad, which can charge Qi-compatible devices. A disadvantage of the laptop, however, is the shortened Shift key, which takes some getting used to.
