After trying electric mowers all over the country, we think the EGO LM2102SP POWER+ 21-Inch Cordless Self-Propelled Mower is the best overall choice. It’s easy to use, lightweight, and small, and it has extra power when you need it. Plus, it’s not too expensive. Self-propelled mowers make mowing much easier, especially on hills and rough ground, because the mower moves itself at your speed while you just steer it around your yard.
This choice is no different. When we were testing this mower, it was our first time using a self-propelled mower, so it was almost too strong at first. But once we got the hang of it, we could quickly turn it on and off and change the speeds by using the levers on the handle. We used the self-propulsion to go up small hills (the slowest speed was enough), but we turned it off when we had to go around obstacles.
The Good
- 56V battery that is strong
- Self-propelled to make cutting grass easy
- Up to 60 minutes of running time
- One lever makes it easy to change the height.
- Mulching and bagging give you a lot of choices.
The Bad
- Quite a lot of weight

We’ve tried the Greenworks Electric Corded Lawn Mower a few times in the last few years, and it still stands out as the best affordable option for small yards and tight spaces, even those with some rough terrain. In fact, during our most recent round of testing, we didn’t have any trouble getting this mower over divots, clumps, bumps, and other uneven parts of our yard. This mower powered right through them.
Also, the 12-amp motor is strong enough to cut and mulch tough materials, like the tall, thin weeds in our yard. Even though the grass was a little bit wet, we didn’t have any problems cutting it. The 20-inch cutting deck is narrower than some other choices, but we found that it made it easy to get through the tight spots in our yard. Changing the cutting height, which can be anywhere from 1.5 to 3.75 inches, is also easy, and it’s the only setting you really need to think about.
The Good
- Corded electric power source that is good for the environment
- There are a lot of height adjustments so you can cut accurately.
- Mulching and bagging options available
- Lightweight design makes it easy to move.
The Bad
- Not self-propelled and needs to be pushed by hand
- The corded power source makes it hard to move around.

Stop reading this review if you want a mower that brings you an iced coffee while you cut. This Echo mower is a tough, self-propelled machine that was made to cut grass, rain or shine. If you want to know how to do that, keep reading. Echo, which is based in the Midwest, is known for making this kind of gear. It has been doing this for a long time, and we have tested this brand for a long time, so we can talk from experience. This 56-volt mower has a great cut and one of the best cleaning systems in this test. It is also easy to use.
We mulched, side unloaded, and bagged with the Echo, and it passed each test with flying colors. It also went up hills and through tall grass and weeds without a problem. It comes with a 5-Ah battery and a second bay for another battery if you want to increase its run time. This is also a great reason to buy one of its other great battery-powered tools. Simply put, the Echo is almost exactly like a gas-powered lawn mower, and the company says it has no plans to make a machine that mixes lattes any time soon. That works for us, just like this mower does.
The Good
- Powerful 58V battery that works reliably
- Self-propelled to make cutting grass easy
- There are many height adjustments for cutting to fit your needs.
- Mulching and bagging give you a lot of choices.
The Bad
- Up to 45 minutes, which isn’t too long.
- If it’s heavy, it might be hard to move.
Ryobi RY401150US Self-Propelled Electric Mower

Self-Propelled | Yes |
Battery Voltage | 40V |
Battery Capacity | 5.0 Ah |
Runtime | Up to 50 minutes |
Height Adjustment | 7-position |
Mulching Capability | Yes |
Bagging Capability | Yes |
Weight | 53 pounds |
This is Ryobi’s best mower, and the fact that it was made in the United States is something we wish we saw more of. It has a huge cutting area thanks to its two 6-Ah batteries, which add up to 12 Ah, and its X-shaped blade leaves a clean surface in its wake. Ryobi says that the design should be able to run for about 70 minutes. We didn’t time our cut, but it seems likely. Its rear-wheel drive and fairly aggressive tread pattern make it good at going up and down hills and cutting through mud on sidehills.
It also does a good job of bagging on flat, sidehill, and uphill slopes. A bag that mounts and demounts straight up and down through the handle makes it easy to put on or take off. A single-lever deck height adjustment makes it easy to change the height of the deck. The straight edge deck is made of polyethylene, so it won’t rust and only needs basic cleaning.
The Good
- Easy to use because it moves itself.
- Up to 50 minutes is a good length.
- There are many height adjustments for cutting accurately.
- Mulching and bagging give you more options.
- Lightweight so it’s easy to move around
The Bad
- Moderate battery voltage compared to some competitors
Makita Self-Propelled Cordless Lawn Mower Kit XML11CT1

Specification | Value |

Model | Self-Propelled |
Power Source | Gasoline |
Cutting Width | 21 inches |
Self-Propelled | Yes |
Engine Power | 170cc |
Height Adjustment | 13-position |
Mulching Capability | Yes |
Bagging Capability | Yes |
Weight | 90 pounds |
Makita’s self-propelled electric lawn mower has many of the same features as the other models we tested: a 21-inch deck, a brushless motor, a three-in-one design for mulching, bagging, or side discharge, eight height settings from 1 1/4 to 3 15/16 inches, and vertical storage. However, it has a few features that make it stand out. Aside from its calm blue color, we loved how the grass bag catcher was thoughtfully made with a level indicator for the grass.
A fabric indicator floats when the basket isn’t full and the motor is going. When the basket is almost full, the indicator stops floating, so you know it’s time to stop the motor and empty the basket. It’s a simple, small thing, but it’s very useful. It did a great job cutting and bagging, but when it came to mulching, this model wasn’t as good as our top pick.
The Good
- Powerful 170cc engine for cutting quickly and well
- Easy to use because it moves on its own.
- There is a wide range of height adjustments for grass of different lengths.
- Mulching and bagging options available
The Bad
- Some people may find it harder to move things with more weight.
- uses gasoline to power itself.

The “Personal Pace” auto-drive feature on the Toro takes all the guessing out of changing the speed, just like the “Smart Trek” feature on the Ryobi. The mower can tell how fast you’re walking and will automatically match it. It can also tell when you’re going uphill and will give more power to the back wheels. To go faster, you just pull the handle down further, knowing that it can’t get away from you.
The Toro Recycler SmartStow has nine cutting positions from 1 to 4 inches, a strong 22-inch steel deck, bag, mulch, and side-discharge options, and a full two-year warranty on the mower and a three-year guarantee on the battery. It’s easy to fold up, and like the others, it can be kept standing up. The 60-volt battery, on the other hand, can run for up to 40 minutes on a single charge, but it takes about 2.5 hours to charge, which is a lot longer than other batteries.
The Good
- Self-propelled features make it easy to move.
- SmartStow lets you store things in a small space
- Wide cutting width makes mowing go faster
- Mulching and bagging are two ways to take care of a lawn.
The Bad
- Quite a lot of weight
- uses gasoline to power itself.

The Honda HRX217VKA Lawn Mower is an excellent option to consider purchasing if you do not feel prepared to switch to an electric model just yet. In terms of the quality of the cut and the capacity to maintain healthy grass, it is one of the best self-propelled mowers available. This is mostly due to two features: a two-blade cutting technique that produces results similar to those of a golf course, and a one-of-a-kind method to dial in a precise mulching-to-bagging ratio that takes into account the various conditions of the grass.
Both of these qualities give the mower the ability to produce results similar to those produced by a golf course. When you add all of that to the mower’s other wonderful characteristics, such as its powerful 200 cc engine and rear-wheel drive, which makes it simpler to go over long grass or hills, you get plenty to make up for the expensive price. In other words, the mower is well worth the money.
The Good
- Powerful 190cc engine for cutting quickly and well
- Self-propelled to make cutting grass easy
- Easy to change the height to get the perfect lawn height
- Mulching and bagging give you a lot of choices.
The Bad
- Quite a lot of weight
- uses gasoline to power itself.
