The Sabrent HB-B7C3 desktop USB hub will change your tech life because it has so many ports and because you can turn each one on and off. Sabrent’s powered hub has a whopping ten USB Type-A ports. Seven of them can send data, while the other three are just charging ports that can give your phone, headset, or tablet more power.

Each USB port has its own power button, and unlike some competitors we tried, Sabrent’s port buttons are easy to press and have solid mechanical switches that make a nice clicking sound and stay in the up or down position. There is also a cool-looking blue status light that shows whether a port is on or off.

The Good

  1. Provides ample USB 3.0 ports for multiple device connections
  2. High-speed data transfer rate

All MacBooks and a lot of the best Ultrabooks only have a couple of USB-C ports. That’s why there are so many portable USB hubs with built-in USB-C cables that connect to a computer and give you a few Type-A ports and other features like an HDMI out or a card reader. The 256GB SSD built into Anker’s PowerExpand 4-in-1 USB-C hub is a cool feature we haven’t seen anywhere else.

Because it has an SSD built in, this hub can also be used as a backup drive. This could be very useful if you need to copy files on the go or if your laptop doesn’t have a lot of storage space on its own. During our tests, the SSD was very fast. It could copy a 25GB file at read speeds of 357.4 MBps and write speeds of 261.4 MBps. These numbers were almost the same as the 357/277.2 MBps we got from our portable SSD (when it was connected to this hub).

The Good

  1. Versatile hub with USB-C, USB-A, and HDMI ports
  2. Built-in SSD for additional storage
  3. Power delivery feature up to 100W

The Bad

  1. Limited information on dimensions and weight

CompatibilityUSB 2.0 and backward compatible

Your laptop does not have a USB Type-C port, does it? Even though it’s about as basic as hubs can get, this AmazonBasics hub is all you really need to get the job done. It supports speeds up to USB 3.0 and plugs into a single USB-A connector, giving you access to four more ports. You can use the hub by itself to plug in flash drives or other peripherals, but if you plug in the power adapter that comes with it.

The hub will be able to charge any devices that are plugged into it. Check the loading current of your device when it is being used for charging (for example, iPads or Tablets) or for high-power devices (for example, a hard drive); inadequate current could result in a sluggish charging rate or other problems.

The Good

  1. Compact and affordable USB hub option
  2. Provides additional USB ports for device connectivity
  3. Backward compatible with USB 2.0 devices

The Bad

  1. Limited transfer speed compared to USB 3.0
  2. No power delivery feature

Because recent iPad models have a USB-C connector, users are frequently required to make a choice between charging the device and plugging in an accessory. That issue can be resolved with this hub from Twelve South, which does so without adding an excessive amount of mass.

It provides a headphone jack (yeah! ), a USB-A port, an HDMI output, and an additional USB-C port, and it connects directly to the USB-C connector that is located on the underside of the tablet. It also includes a short extension cable for USB-C, which can come in handy if you have a thick case over your iPad that makes the port a little harder to see.

The Good

  1. Compact and portable USB hub
  2. Offers both USB-A and USB-C ports
  3. Power delivery feature up to 85W

The Bad

  1. Limited information on dimensions and weight

Power DeliveryYes (up to 100W)
CompatibilityUSB-C devices

The Yeolibo 9-in-1 USB C Multiport is one of the least expensive USB hubs we tried, and it has the most ports. Because of these things, we gave this high-value USB hub our Best Buy award. It has four USB 3.0 ports, two USB C ports, an HDMI port, and Micro SD and SD card readers. It plugs into the USB C port on a laptop and works with most modern gadgets.

Even though it has a lot of USB ports, the Yeolibo 9-in-1 USB C Multiport is bigger than some of the other USB hubs we tried. If you want to use this hub’s four USB 3.0 ports, you’ll have to deal with its slightly bigger size. But this USB hub isn’t too big to fit in most bags, and you never know when you’ll need another USB port.

The Good

  1. Versatile hub with multiple ports including USB-A, USB-C, HDMI, and card slots
  2. Power delivery feature up to 100W
  3. Supports high-speed data transfer

The Bad

  1. Limited information on dimensions and weight
