Our favorite iPhones and iPads come with a built-in Take an Apple Maps Flyover Tour that lets us not only get turn-by-turn directions for points of interest (POIs), but also check reviews for local businesses, see what’s around us in different tour guides, get directions for public transportation, and so much more.
But did you also know that it has a cool feature called “Flyover” that lets you get detailed 3D maps that you can even interact with? If you can’t go around the world, the next best thing is Flyover. Flyover is a fairly old feature of Apple Maps; it’s been there since 2012. You can use it to fly over famous places all over the world, like the Empire State Building in New York City and Big Ben in London. You can even “fly” over Cupertino, California, where Apple has its main office.
From a practical point of view, Flypast is a good way to get familiar with the area around places you might visit soon. You can also use this feature if you’re just curious and want to see what different parts of the world look like from above.

The picture of flyover country gets more complicated when we look at actual statistics for which states that people fly over more often than they land in. West Virginia comes out top here, with way more people passing over the state in the air than landing.
