The XM5s are twenty-five percent more compact and twenty-percent lighter than their predecessors. The XM5s retains the unmistakable Sony look of previous Sony products, including the use of gold accents for the Sony insignia and the microphone mesh cover, in addition to the lid cover on the charging case. The earbuds themselves have a mainly glossy quality, but the outside surface, which is where the touch controls are located, has a matte texture.
