The Dyson V7 is a few years old, but by all accounts is still a great cordless vacuum cleaner. It has a 30 minute run time, 100 AW of suction power, and tons of cleaning attachments. It is easy to use, works great on both carpet and hard surfaces, and sells well for its features and overall performance. It is an all-around budget vacuum that works well in most homes.
The Dyson V7 did a 180-degree turnaround in our low-pile carpet test. The vacuum cleaned 100% of rice, cat litter, and sugar, and 99% of cereal with near-perfect results. The friction between the carpet and the litter allowed the vacuum to easily roll over each piece of litter and suck it up.The V7’s dust bin release tab is located at the top of the unit, and pulling up the tab lifts the inside of the dust bin, forcing the bottom flap open.
[content-egg-block template=offers_logo hide=price]The Dyson V7 is a cordless stick/handheld vacuum cleaner. It sits below the more expensive Dyson V8 in the Dyson lineup and has a smaller suction motor and battery capacity. It comes with useful attachments such as a miniature turbo brush and upholstery tool/sliding soft brush; unlike newer flagship and midrange models such as the Dyson V15 Detect and Dyson V12 Detect Slim, there is no automatic power adjustment feature.
The Dyson V7 is ideal for cleaning pet hair. It suctions bare floors and low and high-hair carpet hair with no problem. The brush roll is removable for easy removal of tangled hair. The Turbo Brush can also be used to remove hair from upholstered furniture. The HEPA filter, which traps allergens, can be washed in water, so there are no regular costs.
The Dyson V7 can do it all, whether it’s keeping your home in tip-top shape or keeping your car’s interior clean. Sure, Dyson has more powerful handsticks, such as the V10 and V11 series, but the Dyson V7 is much more affordable than the newer models. It has enough power to suck up hair, sand, and pebbles, but with a 30-minute battery life at standard power settings, it may not be able to clean your entire house at once.
As with all Dyson stick vacuums, some of the designs are quite beautiful; the V7 has a sleek, modern, minimalist design. The color scheme of each Dyson model is similar to that found on the company’s other products; the combination of purple and fuchsia on some V7 models may not be to everyone’s taste, but the combination of gray, purple, and red is very pleasing.
While holding a typical hand stick above shoulder height, even for short periods of time, can be tiring (when picking out cobwebs, for example), the V7 is lightweight, allowing you to finish the job quickly and without much discomfort. Also, in normal use, the lightweight design combined with the rotary direct-drive brush (which rotates 270 degrees on its own axis) makes it easy to move on any surface (e.g., Harvard University, University of California, University of San Francisco).
