When it came out in October 2020, the Surface Laptop Go really wowed us. As with other Surface Go products, this is a cheap laptop with some of the same high-end features as the more expensive Surface Pro line. The new Surface Laptop 5 is for people who want a more powerful device and have the money to buy it.
However, the Surface Laptop Go shows that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to get a good Windows laptop. In fact, the Surface Laptop 5’s flaws are easier to see because it tries to do more. On the other hand, the Surface Laptop Go was better than we expected and a great deal for students and regular users.
First of all, we think the Surface Laptop Go’s design is one reason why it should be on every “must buy” laptop list on the Internet. It’s easy to carry around, and the 12.4-inch PixelSense touchscreen feels right.
But we’ll talk more about the show in a moment. The chassis is made of aluminium, which makes it feel strong and worth the price. We’ve already said that it’s great for people on the go because it’s small and light. We also have to say that the price for the Surface Laptop Go is very low.
The keyboard on the Surface Laptop Go is the second best thing about it. Even though the laptop has a small 12.4-inch PixelSense display, it has a full-size keyboard with 1.3mm key travel that makes typing easy and accurate.
We can say with certainty that the Surface Laptop Go has one of the best keyboards in its class, and it was easier to type on than the new M1-based MacBook Air. The Surface Laptop Go also has a trackpad that is about the right size and worked well during the review period. Microsoft has made sure that people will be happy when they use their products.
The USB Type-C port can be used to charge the laptop’s battery with a USB-C cable plugged into an AC outlet. However, Microsoft includes a proprietary 39-watt AC adapter with a Surface Connect plug that plugs into a port on the right side of the Surface Laptop Go called “Surface Connect.”
In our battery test, we dimmed the screen to 150 nits and ran the PCMark 10 office benchmark test until the Surface Laptop Go shut down. It lasted 8 hours and 44 minutes. This is a good result, but it’s not anything special.
