The Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45-R7S0 is another Ryzen 7 5800H and RTX 3070 combination, which we’ve seen a lot of lately. A lot of gaming laptop OEMs have put these two things together like a good cheese and wine. The Nitro 5 also shows off everything we like about AMD’s 5000 series CPU and Nvidia’s RTX 3070 (Max Q) by putting out impressive frame rates at 1080p.
The inclusion of a 1TB NVMe PCIe SSD is a nice touch, but it should be a requirement for any serious gaming laptop these days, because these drives are so useful. It’s sad to see gaming laptops with only 512GB SSDs. You have speed, but a few big games tend to fill up your storage quickly. In a few weeks, you’ll be looking for a deal on a bigger SSD. The Nitro 5 has a 2.5 drive bay in case you want to use an SSD and HDD together to save money.

Where to buy Acer Nitro 5?
The new Nitro 5 from Acer has a pretty simple design, which is fine with us. Not too long ago, most Nitro laptops (and a lot of gaming laptops in general, especially entry-level models) had bold colours and design details, but that style is slowly going out of style. Garish red and black were especially popular, and while some people still like that combination, it was hard to find an affordable gaming rig that just looked like a normal laptop.
We don’t care much about these three things. At its highest setting, the camera can record video at 720p 30fps, but the video is grainy. It works fine for web chats, but don’t expect to make many high-quality images here. The sound on the laptop is a little too loud on the high end and has a lot of echo, but you can change it with the equaliser in the Dolby Audio software to make it your own. In short, it’s just another laptop with bad sound, which is pretty standard (unless your name is Origin).
Lastly, the 1080p display is still sharp and clear, but it is a little darker (even at its brightest setting) and is almost the opposite of bezel-free. At this price, we’ve seen other gaming laptops put a little more emphasis on the screen, which is what we’d like to see here.
