The Shibata line-contact stylus, renowned for its outstanding high-range performance and powerful mid- and bass sound, is the first Shibata stylus to be used in an Audio-Technica moving coil cartridge, the AT33Sa. The stylus is mounted on a tapered boron cantilever with a double damper for less weight and greater audio quality.
Dual moving coils on the cartridge offer good channel separation, and they are placed inside a sturdy but light-weight VC mould to significantly lessen unwanted vibration. The cartridge has significantly increased magnetic energy thanks to a neodymium magnet and a permendur yoke. Pure audio transmission is guaranteed by the PCOCC (Pure Copper by Ohno Continuous Casting) coils.
The Shibata stylus not only excels in high-range performance as a line-contact stylus, but also generates powerful, deep mid- and bass sound. To significantly enhance sound quality, the Shibata stylus is set on a boron cantilever with a double damper. An AT33Sa cantilever made of tapered boron is used.
By reducing the weight of the cartridge and altering the number of coil spins, the cantilever’s taper and wide-range reproduction ability are improved. The model makes use of a neodymium magnet with a maximum energy product BHmax of 50 [kJ/m3] and a permendur yoke with a high saturation flux density and exceptional magnetic qualities, which further strengthens the concentrated magnetic field of the coil gap.
Maximum energy (BHmax of 50[kJ/m3]) is provided by the neodymium magnet, and the pure iron yoke has outstanding magnetic characteristics. They also boast the magnetic field that is concentrated in the coil gap region. Because it is not impacted by grain boundaries in the transmission direction, the PCOCC coil permits purer transmission. The left and right channels each have their own cylindrical coils, and the basic structure is an original MC type. This topology delivers genuinely superior separation since each left and right channel independently generates power.
The quality of the audio and how the stereo sound spreads can both be significantly impacted by the escape of the signal from the opposite channel, which can result in intermodulation distortion. Its product’s design guarantees a crystal-clear, fluid sound. The two coils also have a reverse-V shape, limiting superfluous coil movement and further eliminating distortion by reducing effective moving mass observed from the stylus tip.
The hard synthetic glue that contains potassium titanate was used to manufacture the rigid and incredibly robust VC mould that fastens the coils. This modification makes the product lighter, which lessens unneeded vibration. The housing of the product is comprised of a precisely cast, strong aluminium alloy.
The top and bottom of the construction are sandwiched with hard synthetic resin to prevent parasitic resonance. This increases stiffness and the signal-to-noise ratio while reducing extraneous noise.
