The Insta360 X3 is a camera that stands up straight and looks like a stick. The bottom has a threaded mount point in case you want to add a selfie stick. It fits well in the hand, even though there isn’t any room for an ergonomic grip. What the sides are made of: they are plastic that has a diamond-shaped pattern on them to make them easier to hold. The front and back are made of soft plastic. No other surface feels as rubberized as a GoPro, but the glass parts are what you end up worrying about. There are two 48-megapixel cameras on the Insta360 X3 that have 1/2-inch sensors and lenses with an aperture of f/1.9. These sensors are bigger and better than the GoPro Max’s and the One X2’s 17MP, 1/2.3-inch sensors.
Besides the one key mode they may help to enable, these numbers aren’t really things to pay attention to. This is 4K video when only one lens is used instead of the 360 mode. Videos shot with a single lens don’t need to be edited at all; the MP4 files you get are ready to go as soon as you take them out of the camera. The GoPro Max’s single lens mode, which can only record in 1080p, is not nearly as sharp. But this is 4:3 capture, which means it’s the same quality as 1080p but has a taller frame. The GoPro does have a 1440p mode.

Where to Get Insta360 X3?
The 1800maH battery in the Insta360 X3 is a lot bigger than the 1600mAh battery in the GoPro Max. It says that this can work for 81 minutes in 360-degree, 5.7K mode from Insta360. It looked like the Insta360 X3 could last a lot longer than 81 minutes because its power dropped from 100% to 87% after 15 minutes. But after 45 minutes of capture, the battery level was 49%, which was more like what was said. What we have here is battery reporting that isn’t quite linear. It is common for consumer electronics to keep a 100% charge reading for too long, and the Insta360 X3 does the same thing.
As this is more of a tool, it’s not useful, but that might change over the next few weeks as the battery settles down and more firmware updates come out. This is very important: the Insta360 really does have an 81-minute battery life. One of the main arguments about action cameras used to be how stable they were. It’s still at the low end, but talking about it in terms of Insta360 cameras is getting old. Its FlowState stabilisation has been great for a long time and still is. If you don’t mind that the Insta360 X3 is tall and will stick out a bit from the mount, it’s great for sports or extreme sports.
With the 360-degree view, there are a lot of ways to make the image stable, and the Insta360 X3 has horizon levelling that makes this pretty much automatic. When you’re editing your clips, you can also turn on a feature called Direction Lock. This stops the camera from twisting, making it look like you held the X3 straight the whole time.
