The Skullcandy Crusher Evo Wireless are well-constructed over-ear wireless headphones. They are meant to have a bass-heavy sound profile, and you can even utilise their haptic bass slider to give your favourite songs more boom and punch. They feature a lengthy battery life of 34 hours, and their companion app gives EQ settings to let you tune their sound. Unfortunately, they do not isolate against a large number of background noises; therefore, they may not be appropriate for wearing on the commute or in a noisy office. Nonetheless, if you desire simple headphones with a bass-heavy sound profile, these are a decent option.
Despite being somewhat smaller than prior Crusher models, the Crusher Evo is still an over-ear headphone. However, the fit isn’t as pleasant as the Crusher ANC; the Evo feels a touch too tight and hefty at 312g, and didn’t rest well around my ears when I was wearing glasses, thus hurting the noise isolating seal. However, the cushioning is comfortable, and the fit was acceptable for up to an hour of listening. The headphones are also foldable for storage convenience.
On the right side of the Skullcandy Crusher Evo are large physical buttons for controlling playback and volume, while the left side contains the power button, USB Type-C connector for charging, 3.5mm socket for wired connectivity, and the bass slider, which is what makes this pair of headphones special.
This freely slidable vertical slider determines the intensity of the’sensory’ bass, allowing you to modify how forceful and punchy the lows are without using equaliser settings or software-based controls. I’ll discuss how this affects the sound quality later in the review. The headphones’ frequency response ranges from 20 to 20,000 Hz and are powered by 40mm dynamic speakers. The Skullcandy Crusher Evo uses Bluetooth 5 for communication and supports the SBC and AAC Bluetooth codecs. Given that Qualcomm aptX support is present on the Crusher ANC, its absence is somewhat disappointing and would have been a welcome feature. The Skullcandy Crusher Evo comes with a nylon carrying case, a USB charging cable, and a stereo cable for wired connectivity.
I’m sold on the Crusher Evo because to the on-the-fly bass adjustment that may shake your head enough to affect your vision, the outstanding 40-hour battery life, the good overall sound quality, and the comfort for long amounts of time. They are a terrific set of cans, particularly for the price; they retail for $199, but can be purchased for $180 or less on Amazon, where they have a five-star rating. This indicates that I’m not alone in my opinion; these cans are simply excellent.
