Wireless earphones come in a variety of shapes, sizes and designs, whereas wired earphones require some design innovations. In wireless earphones, the earphones are at either end of a long wire, with a module inside. That’s the basic shape of most wireless earphones, and that’s exactly how the Skullcandy Jib+ looks. There’s a long wire around the neck, with two pill-shaped modules and earphones at either end of that wire.
We received the Skullcandy Jib+ wireless earphones in black. While the basic design of the wireless earphones is the same, a closer look at the Skullcandy Jib+ can be disappointing. The plastic used for the buds and buttons doesn’t seem to be of the best quality, and the module’s circular control buttons (although large) may not be aesthetically pleasing to everyone. The flat wire that hangs from the neck is also not considered sturdy. The earphone tips are plastic and have no magnets to connect them together. The lack of a case or pouch is also understandable in this price range, but requires a little extra investment.
[content-egg-block template=offers_logo hide=price]We were surprised by the sound quality that the Skullcandy Jib+ Wireless earphones boast, especially at this price point. Skullcandy packed a decent-sized 9mm driver into each earphone and the results are quite remarkable. The earphones have a rare amalgam of boosted bass as well as treble. However, the latter sometimes overwhelms the bass. In Poets of the Fall’s War, the bass guitar seems a little muted when the treble instruments enter. It is surprising, however, that the sound is not muted or off-putting in any way.
Our biggest complaint about the Skullcandy Jib Wireless was its quality and the fact that the thin audio cable doesn’t exactly scream ‘durability’.The Skullcandy Jib+ uses an ultra-thin TPE audio cable as the earphone’s connector The area between the two pill-shaped modules is reinforced with a flat TPE cable that appears to be more robust. This cable acts like a band around the neck and prevents tangling.
Ideal for sport These headphones have a stable fit in the ear, are wireless and small enough to carry with you wherever you go. Unfortunately, although functional, the in-line remote control has no volume control and the module on the back of the cable can cause the earphones to come off your ears during intense exercise. Ideal for office use The Skullcandy Jib Wireless do not leak sound, so playing audio at a higher than average volume can mask the ambient noise in a busy office. Another module on the right side is a lot of additional weight to stabilise the earphones around your neck and accommodates the Skullcandy logo, which sits flat.
