How to sync runkeeper with strava? The import and sync will start right away, and the app was so fast that it was done before we could take a screenshot. Runkeeper works for us, and we are loyal people, so we could export all our data and switch to Strava, but it would be nice to be able to use both, keeping our exercise data in sync and, let’s be honest, bragging about our runs to all our friends on Strava.
We just started going to the gym. And we don’t like running on treadmills. We’d rather run outside in the fresh air and better view. We are not regulars, but we like to tell ourselves and anyone else who will listen that we are getting there. Whether you’re a cyclist, runner, or hiker who likes to keep track of your workouts, there are a lot of apps to choose from. This is a bad situation, and it’s even worse if your friends are in different services.
How to sync runkeeper with strava
Our goal is to log our activities in Runkeeper and have them show up automatically in Strava. The first thing we did was look up the API documentation for both apps so we could write a simple link that would send runs from Runkeeper to Strava.
Unfortunately, Runkeeper’s APIs don’t seem to be available to the public anymore, and all of the links we could find to the documentation led to their homepage. It did look like other apps could connect with Runkeeper, though, so here’s what we did:
- In your Runkeeper account, hover over the Settings icon in the top right corner of any page (Gear image) and click on Account Settings.
- From the options on the left side of the page, click on Export Data.
- Select the date range for the Runkeeper activities you’d like to be exported. A zip file will then be generated after some time, including your activity history for the selected dates.
- Once the file is generated, click on the button to “Download Now.”
- Unzip the file.
- Log in to your account on Strava.
- Click Upload from the top right of any page and then “From File” and browse to select the file(s) from the unzipped file.
- Name your activities, and adjust the activity types as necessary.
FAQ
Can I move my Runkeeper data to Strava?
To move your activities from Runkeeper to Strava, you can export your activity history in bulk from Runkeeper and upload them to Strava in groups of 25 from our Upload page. Athletes who don’t have a Strava account can upload in groups of 15.
What is better Strava or Runkeeper?
Both apps track your runs and give you information about your habits and progress. Strava is great for runners who like to run with other people. Runkeeper does the same thing, but it focuses more on the training and goals of each person. Both apps let users sign up for paid subscriptions.
Why is Runkeeper not syncing?
The synchronisation of data can sometimes take longer than it should. Check the Runkeeper web interface to see if the data has been sent to the servers correctly. If not, make sure that your phone can connect to the internet. Try unlinking Runkeeper and then linking it back up.
How do I sync Runkeeper with my iPhone?
Go to the “Me” tab in the app and use the switch in the top right corner to get to “Settings.” Apps and devices can be chosen. Tap on the cell for Apple Health. Choose which read and write data from Runkeeper you want to be sent to HealthKit.
