Tech giant SAP is all set to bolster its presence in India with the launch of its new Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. The brand new venue, which has an capacity of 15,000, will open in August 2020.
This announcement highlights the strategic significance of India for SAP’s growth in the global marketplace and as a technology and innovation-driven market, providing a huge employee base.
Situated across 41 acres of lush green land in Devanahalli, the upcoming greenfield campus will be the second campus in Bengaluru for SAP Labs, which already has a facility in the city.
SAP Labs India has 14,000 professionals, across five Indian cities — Bengaluru, Gurugram, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Pune. The Bengaluru center is the German giant’s largest R&D location outside its headquarters in Walldorf, Germany.
Muhammed Alam, member of the executive Board of SAP and president of the SAP global product unit and head of Product & Engineering at SAP, revealed the new centre at SAP Sapphire 2025.
He underscored India’s significant contribution to the company’s product engineering, calling the Indian operations a “very self-sufficient and decoupled environment.”
C All of SAP’s 25 industry verticals are present in India, Manish Prasad, President and MD of SAP Indian Subcontinent said, and added, “India is one of SAP’s biggest development centres and one of the most vibrant and fastest growing market for SAP.”
He said AI is being embraced at a brisk pace by Indian companies in segments such as automobile and healthcare, besides retail, in line with SAP’s focus on AI-led innovations.
The new CoE will further strengthen SAP’s engineering work for global customers, and address the growing requirements for support services from the Indian customer community.
With a focus on minimal environmental impact, employee wellness, and inclusivity, the campus is specifically created to support the work of our distribution network and to drive the future of our business.
In an analyst call, SAP CEO and Chairman of the Executive Board, Christian Klein, fielded questions on the impact of potential fallout from trade and visa restrictions, saying that the company’s wide geographical spread enables it to be flexible about where its workforce is located.
The German company reassured that IT projects at SAP hadn’t been delayed as a result of them.
This large investment in Bengaluru not only underscores SAP’s commitment to India and the opportunity for growth in the region, but also IT services in India and is expected to make India home to SAP Labs and contribute to future economic advances.
The new CoE is set to becoming a strategic powerhouse for SAPS innovation and service delivery on a global scale.
