It’s hard to stand out when it comes to gaming mice, but the wireless Alienware 610M manages it. First, it looks like a Ghost hovercraft from Halo with its spearhead shape and wide flared rubber back. That’s why I wasn’t sure if I would like it; it’s an unusual design that looks like it’s bulky. Fortunately, I was wrong. The 610M is comfortable, responsive, and memorable, precisely because it is so different (just like the striking Alienware Aurora R9). Yes, there is scope for improvement, but I left impressed. This is our Alienware 610M Review.
Alienware 610M Review – Features
One of the sales arguments of the Alienware 610M is its long service life: the company claims it will last 350 hours on a full charge of the lithium-ion battery. That’s quite exceptional – just like the 1000 Hz polling speed in both wired and wireless modes.
The 610M also offers 16,000 DPI and seven programmable buttons (two of which are on the left side of the mouse), an adjustable scroll wheel that offers 12 or 24 steps per scroll, and a DPI button that adjusts sensitivity by moving up or down instead are pushed then pressed. All in all, a mouse with these functions feels like a good value for $100.
Design
You will love or hate the design of the 610M. Anyway, it’s a brave deviation from the norm. Although most of the shell is a smooth, glossy plastic (including side knobs that sit above a series of grooves along both flanks), the back is a gripping rubber with distinctive; that protrude on both sides. In the meantime, the scroll wheel reminded me of a Land Rover tire or something similar robust.
In short, the whole thing exudes a separate sci-fi atmosphere. It shares a lot of DNA with spacecraft for pop culture, an agreement that is emphasized by strips of RGB lighting at the end of each wing. It is absolutely an Alienware gaming peripheral.
Alienware 610M Review – Performance
Although at the first blush I had reservations about the design, I have absolutely no criticism of the performance of the 610M. It is a smooth, accurate, and responsive tool with precise and satisfying clicks. In Division 2, I was able to switch quickly from headshot to headshot with no more than a tap of my wrist. Scrolling across a chaotic ground-level battlefield in Total War: Getting Warhammer 2 or a better view of the map in DOTA 2 was also a smooth experience thanks to that 1000 Hz polling rate.
The DPI button is also one of the more convenient means of the mouse. Instead of pressing to switch between the settings (and not knowing which one you use without shaking the pointer), let it push you up and down to increase or decrease the sensitivity. It is a natural, logical, and design choice that I would like to see more from other manufacturers. It is a line of thought that is also present in the scroll wheel, which you can adjust with a switch on the bottom of the mouse.
However, I have not appreciated the side buttons of the 610M. The action on them is a bit spongy, and the surface is just too smooth for my taste. The side handles are also not that effective. They feel somewhat underwhelming despite adding to the sleek design.
However, the rubber tail is a different story. It offers a satisfying, comfortable grip and provides support for your thumb and little finger during use. The bloom of RGB lighting on the sides only contributes to the sci-fi appearance of the mouse.
Battery Life
Unfortunately, they don’t do much to help the battery life of the 610M. You can only get 350 hours of use under certain circumstances, such as turning off the already minimal RGB lighting or adjusting your settings. Hold on to everything, and you will get much less. I used an average of five days of constant use in the office before I had to charge. That is a lot better than many other entries on our best wireless gaming mouse guide, granted, but that is not the achievement that I had hoped given the 610M advertising.
Alienware 610M Review – Conclusion
If you are looking for a reliable wireless mouse and want to complete your Alienware installation, I can recommend the 610M. It does not always hit the right notes, but those misses are the exception rather than the rule. For more options, check our list of The Best Gaming Mouse
