The PG16 is billed as a “professional gaming headset” and is at the bottom of the range of headsets made by Austrian Audio. It costs $135/£129, which is a lot of money. If it were as good as the headsets on our list of the best gaming headsets, it would cost a lot more. Even though it has some cool features, like being compatible with different platforms and being easy to carry around, and even though the basic sound quality is good, there are a few things that make it hard to suggest for everyday use.
A lot can be said about how clear the sound of the PG16 is. It can sound a little tinny on its own, but the sound quality gets better and better the more you use the Spatial Sound Card L program. There aren’t that many things you can do with the software because there aren’t that many choices. These include a few surround sound settings and EQ presets that are optimized for different speakers, as well as a few that boost or lower highs or lows. There is no EQ dial to play with, which is a shame.

Austrian Audio PG16 review: Design
The fact that the PG16 is wired won’t stop most people from buying it. It’s also well made. The 265g headset and memory foam earpieces are light and comfortable enough to wear for long amounts of time, both at home and when you’re out and about listening to music. Still, they feel pretty sturdy, and the red trim on the black headset is stylish without being too loud.
Austrian Audio PG16: Connection
Austrian Audio puts the entry for the TRRS (Tip Ring Sleeve) jack plug on the bottom of the right ear cup. If the wire breaks, it can be taken off and replaced with a new one. On the other hand, it’s a bit annoying that it’s not a standard 3.5 mm input and is only 2.5 mm wide. We don’t understand why they didn’t make both sides the same size. You can buy this headphone from its official website
Audio performance
The PG16 may not have Bluetooth or active noise cancellation, but it makes up for it with a wide frequency response (from 12Hz to 24KHz), which is unusual for headphones at this price point. The tense, ticking percussion has a frightening, biting edge, and the deep electronic bass on Bad Guy by Billie Eilish strikes like a piledriver while still feeling calm and rhythmic enough to have you dancing.
On the other end of the spectrum, Queen’s Somebody To Love’s complex vocal harmonies come through with crystal clear detail, while Roger Taylor’s soaring falsetto soars with piercing precision. The PG16 are hard to beat if you’re searching for a high-quality wired set of headphones at a reasonable price.
Austrian Audio PG16: Software
RGB lighting, which is common in gaming headphones, is not available here either. Instead, the company uses a simple style. But if you want the PG16 to sound as good as possible, the company that makes it suggests you download the extra SpatialSound Card 7.1. surround sound software from New Audio Technology. This would normally cost an extra €9.99, but with the coupon that comes with the headset, you can get it for free.
Austrian Audio PG16: Microphone Quality
The PG16’s mic works just fine, but it doesn’t have the same noise cancellation technology as more pricier headsets. We like that the mic boom is flexible and can be angled to find a good spot to talk, and that it can be muted with a short push upwards.
The sound is crisp and clear, and the omnidirectional mic can be positioned away from your mouth if that’s more comfortable. With a hardwired connection, you never have to worry about dropped calls or other Bluetooth issues, and the music will play without interruption.
Final Words
The PG16 offers a set of wired stereo headphones that are of exceptionally great quality at a price that is comparable to other options. On the other hand, it does not have Bluetooth connectivity or any of the other capabilities that can be found in competing headsets. Furthermore, the surround sound software that it comes with is difficult to set up and only works on Windows.
