Now that mesh networks are a thing, taking control of your Wi-Fi doesn’t have to mean making a lot of painful phone calls to your service. Almost every company makes an expandable mesh network system, and now that Amazon owns Eero, so does it. So we tested the Eero 6+ routers to see how they compare to some of the best routers for your home, including Amazon’s other Eero routers.
A pack of three Eero 6+ routers costs $300. This is a pretty good deal compared to some of the fancier sets on the market. The Eero 6+ is a cheap choice, so there are some trade-offs, but for the most part, you’ll get fast connections on your busy network, which is where this line of routers shines.

Design and Features

The Eero 6 Plus can be bought in either a one-pack or a three-pack, just like all other Amazon Eero systems. If all you need is an extra satellite, go with the first choice. If you want to start building a full mesh system, though, go with the three-pack. All Eero devices can work with older models, so the 6 Plus will work well with a mesh system that is already in place.
But you do need to be careful about how you mix and match. With the Eero 6 Plus, the 160MHz channels will only work if all of your devices accept them. Right now, only the Eero Pro 6E and this model meet that requirement, so stick with these devices. Well, that depends on your setup, which I’ll talk about later. You can buy this Eero 6 Plus from its official website
Eero 6 Plus: Setup and software
The Eero app is the central component of the Eero 6+ software experience, as it is through this app that you will communicate with these routers. You will not be able to access a web interface on your computer, in contrast to conventional routers. Even though the app isn’t as strong as I’d like it to be, it’s quite simple to use, and it was a joy to configure the routers with it.
After opening the package, we removed a router and proceeded to follow the instructions provided by the programme. The only thing I needed to do was power down the primary Verizon router, connect the Eero to an accessible ethernet port, and the app took care of the rest of the setup for me.
Eero 6 Plus: Performance

Each Eero 6 Plus satellite is an AX3000 system, which has a 600Mbps network at 2.4GHz and a 2400Mbps network at 5GHz. But, as we already said, the top 5GHz speed is based on 160MHz channels. Satellites can’t talk to each other because there is no specific wireless backhaul.
When we tested throughputs, we found that the Eero 6+ was faster than the Eero 6 at close range, with a speed of 561.75Mbps. On the second floor, the speeds were the same, at 304.4Mbps. At 179.68Mbps, the Eero 6 Plus was faster than the 6 on the second floor, but it was still a long way behind the Orbi RBK852, which has a dedicated wireless backup.
Price and Availability
Flash forward to 2022, when the Eero 6 Plus comes out. The system looks almost exactly like the one that came before it. It costs $299 for a pack of three this time, which is a little more than before, but it claims better performance because it now supports 160MHz channels instead of 80MHz. Since the AX3000 speed rating is faster than the AX1800 rating, it is also better able to use gigabit links.
Final words
The Eero 6 Plus and the Eero Pro 6E are both good mesh options, and I could easily suggest either one to a friend or family member. Both have fast speeds that stay the same, are easy to use, have a good mix of features, and are a good deal compared to the competition. We also like how restrained Eero is under its new parent company, Amazon. The routers have Frustration-Free Setup and Alexa voice controls for stopping the Wi-Fi, but that’s about it when it comes to Amazon.
Eero 6 Plus review: The good and The bad
The Good
- Controls home automation devices
- Supports 160MHz channels
The Bad
- No advanced features
FAQS
The Ethernet ports on the Eero 6 (right) are not on the Eero 6 Extender (left). In an Eero system, there are no satellites or routers. Instead, there are nodes and other nodes. Since the eero 6 Extender doesn’t have Ethernet, it can’t be your main gateway, but it works with all other eero units.
We put the trust of our customers first, so eero software does not track what you do on the internet. This is true for both eero software on eero devices and eero software on eero Built-in devices.
