The Gigabyte G5’s new version feels just like a cheap gaming laptop, except for two things. The first is how well it is made. It looks good and feels solid, with a touchpad that feels high-end and a sturdy chassis. The second and most important thing is that the new RTX 4060 graphics card performs like a beast. At the top settings, the most demanding games, like Cyberpunk 2077, run at 60 frames per second.
The RTX 4060 is one of the first things to come to the G5. It works much better than the older RTX 3060, and sometimes it even does better than the more expensive and powerful RTX 3070, which is pretty amazing. It also works with Nvidia’s Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) AI technology, which lets it do something called “Frame Generation.”

Gigabyte G5 review: Design

The G5’s appearance is simple and sleek: it’s all black. When the lid is closed, the only clues that this is a gaming laptop are the light texture on one corner, the small Gigabyte logo on the back, and the triangle-shaped air holes on the back and sides. When you open it, it’s again pleasingly simple, with thin frames around the keyboard and screen. You can buy this laptop from its official website
Gigabyte G5 review: Display
The style of the outside of the Gigabyte G5 doesn’t surprise me, but the screen is much better than I expected. This is a 15.6-inch “IPS-level” Full HD screen with a 144Hz refresh rate. For a cheap gaming laptop, the way colors look is great. It covers 114% by volume of sRGB, 100% of DCI-P3, and 74.8% of Adobe RGB. After knowing that only part of the sRGB color space would be covered, Gigabyte has come up with something really cool. Even though it’s not a real wide range screen, it looks great in person.
Gigabyte G5 review: Performance and features
The Gigabyte G5 gaming laptop can come with different parts, but the one we tested had an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 GPU, an Intel Core i5-10500H processor, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of SSD storage. It’s a good gaming setup, but it’s not the best. It’s good if you want to play the newest games but don’t exactly care about getting the highest frame rates.
When we ran the 3DMark Time Spy test, it got a score of 7,428. This is considered “good” by 3DMark, and it means you can play games like Battlefield V at almost 100 frames per second on a 1080p screen with the graphics settings turned all the way up. As a reference, the average score on 3DMark for a gaming laptop is 5,730, while the average score for a desktop gaming PC is 9,216.
Gigabyte G5 review: Battery Life

In PCMark 10’s Modern Office test, the Gigabyte G5 only lasted 2 hours and 44 minutes after turning on Windows 11’s Battery Saver in the default Performance setting. This is meant to look like regular jobs that office workers do.
It’s a pretty terrible outcome. I ran the test again using the Power Saving mode, which is a Gigabyte feature that can be accessed from one of the apps that came with the laptop. The Gigabyte G5 ran for 3 hours and 37 minutes. This is closer to the average battery life of a gaming laptop, which is 4-4.5 hours, but it is still not good.
Gigabyte G5 review: Price and availability
The keys feel a little cheap, and if you push on their corners, they move around, but that’s what you’d expect from a laptop at this price. The customizable RGB backlighting isn’t very bright, and you can only choose a solid color and change the brightness. However, it’s a feature that not many computers at this price point have, so it’s a plus.
Final Words
In spite of the fact that it has an older processor, the Gigabyte G5 is still a smart choice because it has a screen of good quality and its price is reasonable. Do not purchase this gaming laptop with the expectation that it will run for an extremely long time on a single battery.

FAQS
The Gigabyte G5 (RTX 4060) is a strong, portable laptop that is great for gaming, which is where it counts most. The screen should be brighter, and the fact that the US model has only 8GB of RAM makes it hard to suggest. But if you have 16GB of RAM, even the most demanding AAA games will run smoothly at high frame rates.
Every gaming laptop’s worst enemy is heat, but the G5 MD’s thick plastic body helps it stay cool.
