Even though it has a “8” in its name, the Honor Pad 8 doesn’t have an 8-inch screen. This is a big no-no in the tablet world. When you consider that the Amazon Fire HD 10 has a 10-inch screen, the Lenovo Tab P11 has an 11-inch screen, and the iPad Pro 12.9 has a 12.9-inch screen, picking up the Honor Pad 8 and seeing a 12-inch LCD screen is a bit of a shock.
The name probably comes from the fact that this tablet is a follow-up to the Honor Pad 7, but calling tablets by their numbers isn’t as common as it used to be.If you’re asking why we’re talking about the Honor Pad 8’s name instead of any of its features, you’re starting to understand the problem with this tablet. Other than its wrong name, there’s not much else that stands out about this Android tablet.

Honor Pad 8 review: Design
The Honor Tab 8 is pretty big compared to many other Android tablets on the market, and you won’t be able to use it with one hand. Aside from that, though, it looks like any other computer. It has four speakers and a USB-C port, but it doesn’t have a 3.5mm headphone jack. Sorry, wired audio fans. On the back, there is a small bump for the camera, so the slate can almost lie flat.
Because it’s made of glass, it feels pretty high-end to touch. We don’t suggest using it with your hands, though, because of how big it is. Instead, buy a stand or keyboard accessory and prop it up on a surface.
Honor Pad 8: Display
The big 12in screen on the Honor Pad 8 is the star of the show. Even though it’s an IPS screen with a 60Hz refresh rate, the total number of pixels is 2,000 x 1,200, which is a much higher resolution than most tablets at this price point.
The picture quality is also pretty good. When checked against the sRGB color space, the Honor Pad 8’s screen had a gamut coverage of 94% and a total volume of 98.7% when it was set to the default mode.
Honor Pad 8 review: Cameras
Both the front and back cameras on the Honor tablet are 5MP. You probably aren’t getting this for photography, since even the cheapest phones have better cameras, but they do the job.
These cameras are all you need to scan documents, make video calls, and read QR codes, especially since many other tablets don’t even have 5MP resolution. You can also use the front camera to unlock the phone with your face. You can buy this tablet from its official website
Honor Pad 8: Audio Quality
The Honor Pad 8 has eight speakers. Four of them are on each side, and they can play loud, clear music. They are great for watching videos and sound pretty good for being built into the device. The only thing I don’t like about the music on the Honor Pad 8 is that it doesn’t have a headphone jack, which is a bit of a bummer since it’s such a media beast.
Honor Pad 8 review: Performance
The performance is what is not great. The Honor Pad 8 has an eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 engine. With 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, we have a lot of space. At the moment, there is no LTE version.
In the Geekbench 5 test, you can see that the speed of its CPU is just a little bit better than that of entry-level tablets like the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8. But it’s not as good as tablets that cost the same, like the 10 and 11-inch Galaxy Tab S6 Lite and the Xiaomi Pad 5.
Honor Pad 8: Battery Life
This included my photos of the battery, benchmarks, and other information we had gathered while writing this review. Even though we think it has something to do with the fact that my device was on pre-release firmware before, Honor hasn’t told me that publicly, so we have to report it. Still, when we used it, the battery life was pretty good. We could charge it quickly with the 22.5W charger that came with it (at least for a 7250 mAh battery), and it would easily last me a whole day.
Pricing and availability
When you find out how much it costs, you can sort of understand why they gave in. The only type you can buy in the UK right now is the 128GB “Blue Hour” model with 6GB of RAM, which costs just £270.
To put that in perspective, Apple’s cheapest iPad is the 10.2-inch one that costs £319, but it only has 64GB of storage space. Apple doesn’t sell a similar 128GB option, but for £459 you can get 256GB, which is four times as much room.
Final Words
The Honor Pad 8 is just as good as many other Android tablets that have come before it. It has a good battery life, a display that shows true colors, and a strong build. But its flaws are too big to ignore. The fact that it doesn’t have HDR or a microSD card slot is annoying, but the real deal-breaker is the same problem that has been plaguing Android tablets since they first came out.
Android isn’t as good as iPadOS, and it has a long way to go before it can catch up. Even so, this is a lot of tablet for the money, so Android fans might be ready to overlook these things. But for everyone else, there’s not much reason not to buy an iPad instead.
