If you don’t have too high of hopes, the 40-inch flatscreen Innocn 40C1R should be on your short list. It can do a lot of different things, and while it’s good at some of them, it’s not great at any of them. You are probably not the only one who has never heard of Innocn.
It has only been around for less than 10 years, which is pretty new for a monitor company. It made its name selling portable monitors on Amazon, but it has since grown to include desktop monitors. It doesn’t have nearly as many monitors as most of its competitors.

Innocn 40C1R review: Design
The 40C1R is simple, with a thin black bezel, a clean rectangular stand, and a small lip with the controls along the bottom of the frame. It doesn’t have any of the flashy gaming features that are common in PC monitors for gamers. It’s a stylish monitor that will look good on almost any workstation, or at least on any desk that can fit it.
If you want to put your monitors on arms, there is an empty 100100 VESA mount on the back of the panel that you can use. The stand that comes with the monitor goes well with its style. It is a simple, sturdy square slab that can be adjusted for height and tilt. When it comes to value, it’s hard to say anything bad about the 40C1R monitor arms. You can buy this monitor from its official website.
Innocn 40C1R review: Performance
In one way, we have to praise Innocn for being honest. As is common, the company includes a factory calibration report for sRGB and Adobe RGB in the box, even though the monitor has mixed results.
This is a good example of why averages aren’t always accurate, especially when it comes to colours. In other words, a company can report an average DeltaE of less than 2, which is considered accurate, but a lot of patches can have an error of more than 3.
Innocn 40C1R review: Hardware
When you turn on the monitor for the first time, you should open the settings right away and make changes. Both the default gamma curve and colour temperature are higher than I’d like, with colours that are too dark and a cold colour temperature. The first impressions weren’t very good, but you can’t judge a monitor by how it’s set up by default.
If you have the right hardware, you can do a full calibration, but the sRGB option in the “professional” menu will give you a much better picture right away. The gamma curve is now more accurate, and the colour temperature is less cold and closer to the D65 white point.
Innocn 40C1R review: Visual Quality
They aren’t completely dark, but the backlight doesn’t shine directly on them, and you can’t see any light leaking from the nearby lit pixels. Overall, the black levels are good. I also did a regular set of checks from Eizo and didn’t find anything strange or worth reporting. There are no smudges, dead pixels, or strange shapes.
But I’ve had a great time playing games on the 40C1R for the past few weeks. Even though the colours are beautiful, what really stands out is how smooth the refresh rate is and how immersing the superwide field of view is. In Horizon: Zero Dawn, Aloy rolls around and climbs hills with ease, giving you time to look at the big picture as she moves.
Final Words
The Innocn 40C1R Ultrawide Gaming Monitor has a big screen and average specs, but it does most of what a cheap gaming monitor should do. Even though it’s not perfect in some ways, the fact that it has all these features and a 40-inch screen for $600 makes it a good deal. If you can get it on sale or for $500 or less, it’s a great monitor that will give you a lot for your money.
