There are times when all you require is a massive display. It is much simpler to get a lot of work done when you have a wider canvas to work with. This is true whether you’re trying to get a better look at a slide in PowerPoint or blow out a complex Excel spreadsheet. In previous years, this might have required shelling out extra cash for a cumbersome 17-inch class laptop.
Because to its small bezels, the ThinkPad T16 Gen 1 from Lenovo is able to fit a 16-inch display into a chassis that, only a few short years ago, would only have been able to accommodate a 15-inch screen. This business laptop is plenty productive even without the need for extra screens or desktop docks because it has the ultrabook thinness of an ultrabook, plenty of ports, and a beefy Intel i7 CPU.

Design and Build Quality

If there’s one thing we can praise Lenovo for, it’s that it’s always the same. Getting a ThinkPad means that it works like a ThinkPad. ThinkPad isn’t given to slick, trendy computers very often. Instead, it’s given to computers with few extra features that are made to last for years. The ThinkPad T16 Gen 1 is a great example of this straightforward, function-over-form design. The biggest things that make this big machine stand out are its big screen and wide keyboard. Both of these things make it great for an all-in-one workspace.
Display
We thought the 16-inch, IPS, 1920 x 1200 pixel display on the ThinkPad T16 would be good, since it costs more than $2,000. But the screen’s color depth is the same as what I’ve seen on computers that cost less than half as much. This is a work laptop, so performance is more important than good looks, but we’ve seen similar laptops with screens that were much more appealing.
When we watched the video for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania on my ThinkPad T16, we were quickly turned off by how shallow it was. At one point, the darkness in the background makes Paul Rudd’s face look as white as milk, while the darkness in the background looks light gray instead of black. Keyboard and Touchpad

The full, edge-to-edge lighted keyboard on the ThinkPad T16 is just the right size. And the trackball between the G, H, and B keys is a standard feature of ThinkPads. I will never understand why these things exist, but the people who like them seem to really like them, so I won’t complain.
We used the ThinkPad T16’s keyboard to take the 10fastfingers typing test. I typed 104 words per minute with 93% accuracy. That’s a lot slower than the 122 words per minute we could type with 97% accuracy on my mechanical keyboard. But even with these scores.
Durability and Security
The Lenovo ThinkPad T16 has a lot of security and durability features. For example, it has MIL-STD 810H certification, which means it has been tried in a variety of harsh environments.
The security features include a TPM 2.0 chip and a fingerprint reader on the power button. The TPM 2.0 chip protects your laptop from online threats, and the fingerprint reader is on the power button. Other features include software that can tell when a person is nearby, a camera shutter, an infrared camera, and Glance by Mirametrix, which uses eye-tracking technology to keep people from looking at your screen.
Performance and Battery Life
The Lenovo ThinkPad T16, like a lot of business laptops that came out in 2022, is driven by 12th-generation Intel Core processors. My review unit has a Core i7-1270P processor with vPro, which is a type of processor that is used in business laptops. There are also choices for discrete Nvidia graphics, which mine doesn’t have. This model also has a 512GB SSD and 16GB of RAM (you can add up to 48GB).
Performance has been very good in real-world use, which is what you’d expect from this type of device. I usually have more than one browser tab open, as well as many other apps, and sometimes I edit photos. The ThinkPad T16 handled all of this just fine, so we don’t have any issues there. Even though 13th-generation processors are coming out now, they don’t seem to be much better, so this is still very good.
Final Words
Lenovo’s newest addition to its T line-up is a great one, and we’re very happy with it. The Lenovo Thinkpad T16 is a great laptop for work, travel, and general business use. It also has a battery that lasts all day. The performance is more than enough for a business professional, and it will only start to be too slow for creative projects that take a lot of time or modeling programs that are hard to understand. The price is a bit high, but it is a good all-around device that you should think about if you are in the market.
